Wish I could've seen SVB play. RIP fellow Tiger. Here's a story of from the thread Lakebound posted:

I think Bobby actually played at ULM (it was NLU at the time). I remember when they moved from BR to Woodville. There was an article in the Advocate about Bobby getting to WCCA and could barely read or write. He had gone to BR public schools and they just let him pass because of football and it turned out he had a learning disorder. He was a beast when he played at WCCA.

His poor eyesight kept him out of WW2. Amazing athlete and one of the greatest of all-time.

A great player in the NFL. I wish that LSU could do something to honor these players outside near the stadium. People such as Jim Taylor, YA Title, etc.

I saw Bobby right after he had his twins. Haven't seen Steve or little Errol in a few years unfortunately.

Amazing to me that WWII was pretty much the reason he became starting tailback. If it wasnt for the war he may have never gotten a chance.
He was a blocking back when WWII came, he didnt get drafted, the guys in front of him were drafted....and he stepped in.
Crazy how things happen.

write to LSU athletics@lsu.edu to ask them to honor Ebert Van Buren in the Hall of Fame. They keep pushing his induction back. He is 87 years old and we (his family) want him to be honored this year!
Steve Van Buren great All-American Football player at LSU, died today at 91 years old in Pennsylvania. He was an NFL hall of famer. Steve & his brother, Ebert (my Uncle) moved to N.O. from Brit
ish Hoduras. Steve & Ebert Van Buren were the first brothers to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft until the Manning brothers. Steve & Ebert to this day, are the only brothers' to become starter
s in the NFL in their first year as Philadelphia Eagles. Dr. Ebert Van Buren (87), who has 5 children and lives in Monroe, LA. Ebert was an army veteran of WWII, received 3 purple hearts and bronze metal honor. He was also captain of LSU, All American but is still NOT in LSU Hall of Fame. Let's Honor the Van Buren Brothers by having Ebert join Steve as a member of LSU Hall of Fame this year. Please write in to LSU. The Van Buren Brothers' deserve to be in the LSU Hall of Fame together.

• Born in British Honduras
• He and his family moved to New Orleans in 1940s
• Ebert was not an American citizen when he moved to New Orleans
• He never played high school football
• He served 4 years in the U.S. Army in WWII
• Fought again the Japanese, awarded the Bronze Medal of Honor, with 3 purple hearts, honorable discharge
• Was probably the most honored hero to enter LSU as a freshman in the history of LSU sports
• Was named to the Pro Football coaches All American Team
• Was recruited off of the New Orleans play ground to play for LSU Football
• Started 3 years at LSU 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950
• 1950 was named captain of the Cinderella team that played Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl
• 1950 was drafted by the NFL in his junior year but was declared not valid by the NFL
• 1951 was drafted by Philadelphia Eagles 1st round and also drafted by the Canadian League
• Signed with the Eagles and played 3 years, was named to the Pro Bowl in 1951 his coach removed his name and place his best friend in Ebert's place
• A graduate of LSU in physiology and received a masters degree, an honor student
• Worked as a psychologist in the prisons and military bases
• Received a PHD and is still an active psychologist in Monroe, Louisiana
• Has lived all of his life in Louisiana with the exception of the 3 years in Philadelphia and a short time in Mississippi
• Has five children, 4 girls and a son
• Attends all ceremonies at LSU when invited by the athletic office

I think it's awesome that you're trying to get your uncle inducted into the LSU Hall of Fame. He certainly seems worthy of the honor and I'm sure it would mean alot to his family if he were honored, while he can still attend.
