So sad

quote:

Shreveport police are investigating the death of a infant child who's body was found in a vehicle parked in the back employee parking lot of LSU Hospital Wednesday afternoon. Police say the child's father found the little girl still strapped into the car seat of his black Range Rover just after 4 p.m. and it appears the child was in the vehicle for several hours in nearly 100 degree temperatures.

I searched, didn't see anything.

That is so terrible. However, nobody ever intends for it to happen... the "he should be shot" comment is a little over the line.

The fact that his baby is dead is a lot to handle, not to mention prosecution he'll be facing.

This, it was a terrible terrible mistake but a mistake none the less, this man will suffer plenty for the rest of his life. Its just a sad situation all the way around.

I may be asking a dumb question, but how in the frick do you leave a baby in the car? I have a four month old, and there is no way I would "forget" that she was in there.

That I can't answer but if a person were to intentionally kill a child there would be much easier ways to go about it. This was obviously a mistake. I, like you, can't understand how its made but its obviously not on purpose.

Probably a doctor who drove right by the kid's daycare and was distracted (paged/answer a page about a patient), and completely forgot that he didn't drop the kid off.

God, I don't like thinking about it. They just started a nationwide radio or tv campaign to remind parents to always check, no matter what. I heard about it on the news last week... so far it's happened about 30 times this year.

yep.

So unfortunate. I won't say that this would ever happen to me [well, it wouldn't]; it was not intentional so he shouldn't "be shot".

I've thought about that same scenario before. I have a 2 year old and for the past 2 years his mom has brought him to daycare but occasionally ( d or 6 times a year) I would. That breaks my routine and I'm on call 24/7 basically so it wouldn't be out of the norm to get that distraction.

Only thing is, the whole ride in I have my mirror. Adjusted on him and talk to him the whole time. I get distracted easily but I don't think anything could distract me that much

re: Infant death outside LSU Hospital reported

My wife took my son to daycare every day for the first 3 or 4 years of his life, and when he was about 3 she couldn't take him in, so I didn't go to work as early as I normally did, and we were driving along, he was half asleep in his car seat in the back not saying a word, and I drove right by his daycare about a mile or two, came to a red light and stopped, and my son said "Daaaaaad, you missed my school" and it surprised me because I was thinking about work and what I had coming up for the day, and was basically in my routine like a drone.

I would not have gotten all the way to work and left him in the back seat, but I can see where it could happen. Obviously there is no excuse good enough for not taking care of your child, and I've got three of them and cannot imagine the pain associated with losing one.

re: Infant death outside LSU Hospital reported

Happened here in Houston a couple years back.

I was in nursing school with a girl who did this during an exam day. Child was fine luckily it was only a short time and it was in the fall so not too bad. She was extremely upset. Busy with an exam. It happens.

Woman in Houston was not so lucky. She went 8 hours at least before running out there. She came into the ER screaming with a stiff baby. Awful. The mother (obviously) and the ER staff were devastated.

Our son is 2. Worst we did so far was drive about 2 miles with him in carseat unstrapped. He was about 3 months old and was just sleeping in seat/carrier. I said "oh frick" and pulled over when I realized.
