How many HRs would Adam Dunn have to hit to make the HOF?

Just hit #400 last night. On his way to his 8th 38+ HR season. Only 32 years old.
Career slash line .241/.372/.502 .873 OPS 126 OPS+
Will probably finish with the most SOs in MLB history. Possibly the worst defensive player of this generation. Never finshed in the top 20 in MVP voting.
No way he gets in with 500. Doubt 600 either. 650? 700? No chance in hell?

600.... which is possible.... He may finish this season with 410ish.... at 32 he is still young enough if he can continue to produce 40+ home run seasons

Crazy it wasn't that long ago that 400 home runs was a big deal and 500 was automatic HOF. Now it's almost no big deal

he wont get in but I think he'll hit 600 HR's

I don't think he would actually get in either, he would have to hit 700 or close to it really.... Although he is a lot of fun to watch, you won't see many bloop singles with him playing

If he can stay healthy and play for 8 more seasons, averaging 30 HRs per, he will have over 650.
He'll be close.
He'll be close.

I think people easily overestimate how hard it is to hold a job in your 30s, especially your late 30s. I am a huge Dunn fan but I think it is less than even odds that he gets to 500 and a major longshot that he gets to 600. He has a body type that does not age well. He also almost played himself out of a regular role last season.
This is a comeback season for him (and it has been fun to watch), but he is still barely above .200 with an OPS in the .840s. That is good but not spectacular. If he falls off at all next season, he is going to be struggling to keep a full time job. If he falls off a cliff (quite possible), the White Sox are only committed to one more year (after next) and it will be much easier to bench or release him.
In relation to the OP, I think he'd have to get near 700 for serious HOF consideration. I cant see him getting in with 600 (or even getting very close). Fun player to follow though.

650+, IMO. He's about as much of a one-tool player as I can think of, and that definitely hurts his case. That being said, if he has more than 650 it seems pretty clear to me that his one tool was pretty strong, and that will get him some consideration. It's not like he'd be the first "That guy? Hall of Fame? Really?" type of player to be admitted. He absolutely won't be a first ballot guy, but down the road he might luck into it.

He won't get in but he is a one of a kind player.
Not many people know that he has 130 more walks than pujols in 1000 fewer PA's.

Currently 50th all time in HRs and could be scaring 46th by the end of the year. Crazy to think only 25 men ever have hit 500 HRs
