Strip Pit Fishing question

I've been going to this private lake to fish for a little while now and the man who owns it was telling me about some abandoned strip pit close by his property. So I went and looked for it. It is nearly a mile long and 20-30 yards wide. What is most optimal way to fish a strip pit? We used a couple of strike king spinner baits and caught about 7 largemouth about a 1lb or a little heavier. Would texas rig be most effective in finding the big fish? There were a ton by the shore, but none bigger than 1.5 lb. TIA

Hope you kept the ones you caught. Sounds like it may be over stocked.
Try texas rigged red shad worm or crank baits. Can get a little deeper and any structure you can find of course

Grazie. Will try both. I'll post if there's anything of significant size out there.

strip pit= potential depth, I would try carolina rigging bottom structure

How deep and what color is the water?

I typically carolina rig, but there is a bunch of junk about 5 feet from the bank. I'm unsure how deep it is, but it is very very clear.

Typical strip pits have very clear water. Use lighter line and the depth can very a lot.

If its anything like the gravel pits I grew up fishing in, green lizard Carolina rigged will do the trick

I don't know what any of the pits mentioned in this thread are

This particular one most likely use to be a coal mine.

Best baits I've used have been spinner baits, plastic worms, or snag less sally

30 yds wide = seining conditions
