I think the Shae being in Tywin's bed scene was put in more to demonstrate Tyrion being betrayed by Shae than about making him hate Tywin even more. He hated Tywin plenty enough already. But I think it may have taken this extreme to make him cut ties with Shae even beyond her testimony. (I wish I could remember the details of her testimony against him but it's been awhile since I read tht).

As to Tywin, you can look at it a couple different ways. He may just have wanted to nail down 100% that Shae's testimony at Tyrion's trial would not falter or be changed. So he may have wanted to keep her close and lead her to think she had a cushy gig as his ho' until he was sure he didn't need her anymore. Or it could just be that Tywin was like pretty much the vast majority of medieval style royalty and enjoyed him some strange. Heck, I'm sure almost all of the European kings were like that. With the exception of maybe a couple of ultra religious ones. And I don't really picture Tywin as being ultra religious.

But I also believe that Varys intended for Tyrion to kill Tywin

I definitely agree with this, Varys has to keep the realm unstable to allow Aegon a chance at taking the throne and Tywin as Hand would have created more stability.

Agreed. Honestly, while he still completely despises Tyrion, I think Cersei is the child Tywin has the lowest opinion of. I think he deep down knows that Tyrion is a form of him where all of his worse and good qualities are amplified, and thus has some respect for Tyrion's skills. Tywin, while he does love her, doesn't really care about Cersei. He thinks she is foolish, cocky, and slightly crazy. I think he sees a lot of Aerys within her and sees her as almost fully incompetent, which is why he sends Tyrion to her in the first place. As Jaime puts it, Tywin is a glacier while Cersei is merely wildfire.

I agree with this as well, the dialogue between the two of them in this last episode really showed how he feels about Cersei. I think he admires her ambition, but knows she's in over her head and can't even keep her son from acting like a complete jackass.

I'm curious if the Seven tie into or oppose the seven Starks because the way I see it:

Ned - The Father
Cat - The Mother
Robb - The Warrior
Bran - The Crone
Sansa - The Maiden
Arya - The Stranger
Rickon - The Smith?

I think the seven represent certain characters, but I don't think they are all Starks:
The Father - Ned/Robert (the first to fall)
The Mother - Dany
The Warrior - Jamie
The Maiden - Brienne
The Stranger - Arya or Jon
The Crone - Bran
The Smith - Gendry or maybe Rickon

Did Varys intend to have Tyrion kill Tywin before or after Jaime put a knife to his throat?

Probably after, but killing Tywin eventually was probably part of the plan all along. If the Red Viper had already poisoned Tywin and Varys knew since he's been in contact with the Dornish to some extent regarding Viserys/Arianne & Dany/Quentyn (not sure if he knew about this actually), then letting Tyrion kill him instead shifts the blame away from Dorne.

I am nearing the end of SoS reread. At the end of a Jaime chapter he mentions that he is going to go talk to Varys. Is this where Varys talks Jaime into freeing Tyrion?

Im gonna ask a non-blackfyre related question or 2 here the may have been addressed already:

1) How is it that white walkers were able to get south of the wall but cold hands couldnt?

i thought the wall stopped all magic (others-style) magic from passing through

Is it because the dead nightswatchmen were brought south of the wall before reanimating as walkers?

2) im seeing some people talk about how the Children of the Forest and/or some other groups of people might even be allying with the Others. What would be the benefit for anyone to do that?
