My thought would be that when the Wall was built by Brandon and sealed with magic by the CotF, there was an additional fail-safe built in the spell that if The Wall was ever brought down, it would trigger the Starks to rise as a last line of defense

Sounds plausible. Remember that all the Warlocks didn't have powers until the dragons came (or something else happened).

Well obviously there would need to be some magic for the dead Starks to rise.

I can see it but is there any evidence in the books to give support to this theory?

Melisandre probably could not "queef shadows" until the birth of the dragons.

Though Blood magic was around while there was no dragons.

Someone posted that in the GoT facebook thread.

"The bitch who queefs shadows" IIRC

but it just seems like something that big would be remembered.

Howland Reed and the Cranogmen remember because they are 1/2 CotF. They have been waiting for the new Greenseer (Bran) to arrive and they have transported him to their lair in order for him to help raise the dead starks from under Winterfell.

CotF will help defeat the others again.... with the first men (Starks), again.

FACT!!!

Magic throughout the world is getting stronger.

Warlocks, Greenseers, Maesters, alchemists, clerics of all faiths..... All use magic and noticed it.

Return of the red star, Dragons, Others.....all coincide with the increased potency of the magic. What causes what is open to debate.

I want to believe, but why do they have to go to the lair to raise the Starks?

That would be so great.

It would really fit with my hope that Bloodraven is not evil, just misunderstood.

Aegon sending him and Aemon to The Wall truly could be to use Bloodraven's knowledge of magic to aid the CotF and Starks in the great battle that was bound to come in the near future.

Maybe it isn't as simple as The Wall coming down but the Stark in Winterfell has to know how to awaken them, so Bloodraven is there to teach Bran, who will then tell Jon what to do??

Aemon connecting with Jon Snow and Bran meeting Bloodraven just makes too much sense.

I want Aegon to discover some prophecy on the next D&E novella to make this line up.

Please don't change this through Throneception if you're reading this and mad that your endgame is revealed GRRM

I mean obviously GRRM can make any rules he wants since it's his universe. But I don't see how Jon is getting into the crypt since he isn't a Stark, unless Robb trying to legitimize him was enough.

But like I said if y'alls theory is right than if anything Jon is a Targaryen. Even if his mom is Lyanna Stark he's still Targaryen, you wouldn't classify Robb as a Tully would you?

What page is the Mance=Dayne theory on?

We need to consolidate all of the best theories into one post.

WALL QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All discussions of the Wall dictate that it is warded against the Others but we are all missing something crucial.

The Night King took his Other bride to the Nightfort, ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WALL!!!

So if the Wall is traditionally warded against the Others how do they make it through?

Answer:

Only a Stark can bring the Others through the Wall. Brandon the Builder used his blood to bind the Wall with magic, meaning that only a Stark can bring that which is unwelcome across the Wall. It also explains why there must be a Stark at Winterfell, to keep the magic of the Wall strong. The Night King, as a Stark, was able to bring his Other Bride across.

This is also why I think that the Wall doesnt necessarily need to be brought down to let the Others have their way with the Seven Kingdoms. They have Benjen Stark to lead them across.

BOOM!

If you agree that the CoTF are in league with the Others, then yes, Bran is your choice.

BUT, if you believe as I do, that the Others are working solo then Benjen is the natural choice.

I just don't think they are working together. I read the wiki again last night for all of them.

I'm starting to think Bloodraven isn't bad too
