in the HBO show, Bronn admits to having been north of the wall. one assumes he is a deserter from the night's watch.
i cant recall, does he say this in the book as well?

in an article about the band that will be performing Bear and the Maiden Fair, there's this little snippet:
what do yall think this means?
quote:
“The Bear and the Maiden Fair” is about a bear that goes to the fair and woos a maiden who was hoping for a knight. We are sworn to secrecy in regards to how the song will be used, though it’s not where readers of Martin’s novels might suspect.

Bear pit with Brienne at Harenhall is all I can come up with.

Duh. How would you not think of that?

Can't believe Carson didn't post that.

We're supposed to think that it comes during Sanaa's meeting with Olenna Tyrell.

No, and I'm surprised he didn't write that in. It will be a very nice and appropriate addition from the series to the books.

Where we would expect it to be used....hmmmm.
Good idea about the bear pit, my first thought was about Jorah.
Guess I'm too literal.
Just to throw this out there, even though I missed the discussion (my you bees have been busy, eh?)
but R+L=J doesn't make Jon the heir to anything, especially in Stannis's eyes, without PROOF R+L were married. Without a Highborn pedigree, Stannis would consider him no closer to the line of succession than if he were still Ned's Bastard.

But there are very few truly honorable characters to the core in the series so I have a hard time having so much ire for him.
Most of them seem to be getting the short end of the stick.

Ned, Jon, Brienne, and Jeor Mormont are the only ones I can think of.

Barristan Selmy is another.

Davos Seaworth

If you think about it, not only did Rhaegar cause Robert's Rebellion, but, in a way, was a cause of the demise of the North in the War of the Five Kings. Had Rhaegar not run off with Lyanna and impregnated her, Ned would never have had to lie about spawning a bastard that caused great hardship to Cat. So, Robb sees what happened when you "dishonor" a girl out of wedlock (even though Ned never did it), decided to marry her and set off the chain of events that led to the RW and the fall of the North.

Yeah all of those guys to especially Sellmy. Robb was an honorable guy, but he did break his oath to the Freys that would nearly cause the extinction of his house.
