Yeah they definitely could do it that way. I was kind of hoping that they would end his story this season by showing the arrival of Mance Rayder's army just north of the wall. Seems like a good place to stop to me.

Nah, Season 3 should end on an extremely sour note for all characters we love.

The first hint had fricking BETTER be a shittily performed in world background of RoC.
Or maybe a muted world world in a montage of the aftermath with that gravelly/haunting version they already recorded for the show.

First, TDT I: The Gunslinger, without a doubt, was the WORST, most poorly written book in the series, (even the revised version) and in the top 3 worst King has ever written, period.
Of course, it was written by a 19 year old,
and for a first novel, it still blows many authors' first attempts outta the water.
Second, while the last three books were Published in a three year period, he started finishing the books while still convalescing in ''99. Writing them, that is to say-
The last 3 weren't even close to 'thrown together garbage,' considering "sub-volumes" include the novels:
'Salems Lot
The Stand
Hearts in Atlantis
Everything's Eventual
From a Buick 8
Insomnia
Eyes of the Dragon
Etc. etc.
Those last three books solidified TDT as his Magnum Opus and revealed that the series in its entirety has been an ongoing life's work since 1966, eight years before Carrie was published, and includes most of his library written since - and technically, it's not complete - Book "4.5" was published in 2011: "The Wind Through the Keyhole"
What King did after the accident was realize he wasn't going to let Robert Jordan's lesson slip past him. He re-evaluated his priorities, bigtime, and tackled the beast head-on. A VERY admirable job he did, too.
Our beloved fat man better do the same, quick fast and in a hurry. He and he only can decide how he wants to be remembered. What he will be remembered for has already been decided- finished or not.

I and a large number of people hated the last couple of books, because they aren't even close to the same quality as books 2-4. I had no problem with the very end of the last book, it was somewhat fitting, though a bit of a copout for a seriously long series. But by King standards that was one of his best conclusions in a full length novel.
Book 5 was solid outside of King throwing a 50 page description of his own drinking problems via another character into the middle of it randomly.
The last two were just garbage however. I mean, he freaking wrote himself into the story in a major way, even to the point of getting one of his major characters killed doing so, and having them die in a lame as hell way. That was the author version of nuking the fridge, it was just absurd. And that's not even going into him killing off one of the main bads in a stupid way, or having the main bad guy taken out by some random kid he introduced in a short story a couple years before he wrote the final books. It was contrived bullshite of a high level across the board.

Considering that at least half of the fans of the Dark Tower are like me and think the last two books mostly suck, Martin will have done a very poor job if he follows King's example. It's not success if you turn half your fanbase from loving your works into a big pile of meh. The Dark Tower went from one of my favorite series of all time to me not recommending the series to anyone since he finished (and the main series is done, prequels aren't going to change the bottom line and are just semantics at this point).
Bottom line, I'll be straight up pissed if Martin ends the series as badly as King did the Dark Tower.

Though he is getting up in years, and is not the picture of health. I would hate to have another writer come in to finish the series.

Unfortunately, this is almost a certainty. My only hope is that he has his final plans for the series written down and locked away in a safe deposit box. If the person chosen to finish knows the ending and main conflicts that GRRM wishes to present, then it might not be terrible.

Quick question about Loras Tyrell and Dragonstone. Did we ever find out for certain that Loras is injured or did we just find out in a letter? If we never knew for sure that he went to Dragonstone and conquered it but was gravely injured, then I may have a crackpot theory of my own.

It was reported that Dragonstone was taken and Loras was gravely injured, he gon die, in the taking. But it is a common theory that he is fine and the Tyrells are plotting something.

What is everyone's opinion on Aegon and his lineage. I've seen it thrown around that Aegon is Blackfyre and not a Targ at all. Personally, I sorta lean to that theory but with GRRM who in seven hells knows.

Yeah, and a big reason I think Loras may become a POV character next book to see what's been going on with the Tyrells behind the scenes.

I think most of us are leaning in that direction, with Varys being his uncle.

I kind of hope he is a Blackfyre. Reading Dunc and Egg, I am very interested in the Great Bastards. I wish we could get more history on Daemon. Will be very interesting to see if the sword Balckfyre resurfaces and if the old followers rise up for House Blackfyre to try to gain their lands and titles back.
