Why is the general consensus that Bloodraven's motives are necessarily bad/evil and in league with the Others?

I think he's evil personally. After reading D&E especially. He just has that creepy bit to him, kind of like Bolton did before we actually saw the horrible things that family does. Just my opinion though.

re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS

To keep the Bloodraven topic going, I have a "you know you're addicted to ASOIAF when" story.

At lunch, some coworkers were talking about a higher up at our company that tries to act like everyone's friend, but you know she has ulterior motives when talking to people.

Coworker: It's so uncomfortable talking to her. It's like she has 1000 eyes on you.

My first thought, I WORK FOR BLOODRAVEN!

Anyone looking forward to tomorrow's release of Memory of Light, the conclusion to Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time? He and Martin really started the move to a grittier style of fantasy. A lot of the almost panicked criticism of Martin for his seeming lack of focus is rooted in Jordan's midseries loss of control and eventual death.

re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS

I believe that Bloodraven is not in league with the Others. I think that he and the COF are a third party darkhorse that will become a more major player in the overall conflict. As an aside, I was wondering if he has Dark Sister with him or if its someplace hidden waiting for Varys to hand it to Aegon to add validity to his claim. Questions on Questions...
Also, I had a pretty good thought about what HBO could do if it gets stuck not having a book to base Season 7 or 8 on (depending on the break down of the books). Let's say Martin gives them a two year completion time at that point, then they could make 2 or 3 HBO movies on the Dunk and Egg novellas. Ahhh, wishfull thinking.

P.S.- I feel bad for the kid that tried to start his own ASOIAF thread yesterday.

I have AMOL coming in tomorrow from Amazon, but get out of here calling Jordan gritty . Jordan is your basic old school young farmboy grows up to be the hero type story, it is in no way gritty. I will give Jordan major props for leading the way to making fantasy novels financially viable and leading to the increase in support for fantasy novels which gave us writers like Martin, but he had nothing to do with gritty fantasy. There was quite a bit of gritty fantasy (Glen Cook, Stephen Donaldson, etc) before Jordan, it just wasn't as hugely successful.

They said the sword was lost after war of the Ninepenny kings, although many believe it will resurface with Aegon has somehow the GC kept possession of it. I ultimately think Aegon becomes king and somehow Jon becomes Hand.

i think he is more an extension of Varys and Illyrio than anything. he's also a foil to Jon Snow.

Aegon is either going to die, or he is going to be proven (eventually) as a fraud. There is no way that Martin would wait to introduce such a major player until the 5th book. However, he may have done it just to screw with us seeing as that's how he rolls.

re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS

I know that we are supposed to believe that Joffrey paid the assassin to kill Bran but that was only alluded to by Tyrion and Jaime, IIRC.

Is it possible that Littlefinger lied about the dagger to attempt to capitalize on what he saw as a useful situation?

Crackpot time: Varys sent the assassin to Winterfell in an attempt to destabilize the realm. As the spider, he would know that after John Arryn's death that Robert would then turn to his only true trustworthy friend, Ned. He knew that Ned would be honor bound to accept the appointment so in order to keep him from King's Landing he hires the assassin. Varys hoped that the attempt on Bran's life would make Ned think there were more enemies at home and keep him in the North.

He knew that the Lannister's would be making a power play in the wake of John Arryn's death and that having Ned there to aid Robert would only stabilize the situation. He probably also knew that there was a plot in place by the Lannisters to kill Robert. Removing Ned from the upcoming bad situation would only assist the Spider's efforts.

Which makes me think that Varys also has some part in Littlefingers adventures in the Vale and that Littlefinger isn't in as much control as he thinks.

re: Crackpot ASOIAF Theories SPOILERS

I could've sworn sure the Joffrey/ dagger connection was revealed in a conversation betwn Cersei and Robert...or her and Jaime, maybe...something about trying to win his father's approval?

ETA: must've been her and Jaime. I know the reveal was MUCH later in the series...maybe even in Dance if not Feast.
