Looking for a new round this year. I've been shooting the Federal Vital-Shock with sucess, but if you don't place it 100% perfect you hardly draw blood. Then agian they drop like rocks most of the time. I hear Silvertips leave a nice hole on exit, but I'm not sure if I want to destroy my deer. What does the OB use when they are not using their bows?

6.5x55: Hornady Custom 140gr soft points. I don't really like em, but that's what I got

.270 win: Federal blue box 150 gr round nose soft point. Most badass bullet on the face of the earth. Cannot recommend enough.

.30-30: Remington 170 gr core lock soft points. Never shot a deer with it farther than 40 yards.

ETA: Things I recommend you DON'T use:

Core locks (I know I know)
Hornady SST's
Hollow points
Anything that costs more than $40 a box.

What caliber are all of the ballistic silver tip shooters hunting with. I tried them in my .300 WSM and they came apart with no exit on every animal I shot. I'm now shooting Winchester XP3s

Barnes X as I have for a decade or more. Still the best in my book. Get the lead out...

I shoot 7mm 165 grain Federal Premium nosler partition. Most of the time I don't have to trail them.

I had the same issue. I like exit wounds! I shoot 165 grain Fusions now. They are cheaper than some other ammo but they make craters coming out. My Browning A-Bolt groups them very well.

I don't often hunt with my rifle but when I do I use 7mm Mag Federal Premium 165 Seirra Game Kings. Hit'em in the shoulder and knock'em on their arse.
