Looking for a new toy. What is the comparison between 44 Mag vs 45 in terms of volocity and knock down power?

It's like a blonde 10 or a brunet 10...either one'll do.

44mag>45ACP
"Knock Down Power" do you mean recoil?

Knock Down Power as in what it will do to your target.

45 ACP or 45 LC?
.44 mag smokes both of them, but the .45 colt can actually be loaded to near .44 mag power IF AND ONLY IF the gun can handle it.
Buffalo bore has a .45 colt load that is very impressive.
The .45 ACP is nowhere near either of the above.

The .45 acp or long colt really have no place in a horsepower discussion

Already own an S & W 44 mag. Shoots well, little recoil. Was just wondering if there were any advantages to going with the 45. I have a "Judge" that takes a 45 or .410, but that is strictly for very close range.
Sounds like the 44 still wins out. Will probably be looking at one with an 8" barrel this time.
Usually buy myself one gun a year. One of my ways of pampering myself.

How much are you willing to spend on ammo? Because you're going to spend close to twice the price of .45 ACP to get the same amount of .44 mag.
ETA: I see you already have one, nevermind.

I'm actually about to get an S&W 44 mag-6" barrell for a new toy. I have a Colt 1911 45 that is smooth as frick.

What do those numbers at the bottom of that chart mean?

ft-lbs of energy I think

The "knockdown power" phrase makes me want to kick puppies.

I prefer to use the term "arse"
i.e: A .44 mag has much more arse than a .22
