Gordon Hutchinson is on his own planet. He is far better than anyone in the area.

I don't have time to do the research at the moment, but is the refresher course the same as the first course?

Technically, the law still provides for renewal classes that are shorter than the "regular" class. But, about 18 months ago, the State Police strongly suggested that we (instructors) stop offering the abbreviated class. They gave some very good reasons, that are a bit long to type here -- but call me at either of the numbers listed on my website and I'll explain. LINK

Short version (for my classes) is that renewal students take the full class -- but they only pay the old "renewal" tuition which is $55 (Tuition for first-time students is $75)

Thanks. I will check it out when I have more time and look at my upcoming schedule and try and get something set up. I think the guy that taught my original course got into some trouble for doing shorter courses than the mandated 8 hrs. If you were familiar with Guns and weren't a dumbass, he breezed through the course and got you on your way. I think that is why he is no longer teaching

Why would they recommend that? Was there an incident with a CHP that prompted that reasoning?

The motivating factor relates to having your training records subpoenaed after a SD shooting --- and having some sleazy personal injury lawyer trying to convince a jury that you took a "short cut" when renewing your permit thus "clearly proving" that you were toting a lethal weapon without availing yourself of "thorough" training).

LSP isn't saying an abbreviated course makes you unfit, nor am I. They have simply pointed out what happens.

LSP cracked more than one of those. If the guy you used was over in the Lafaette area, he's probably one that got popped.

Teaches you small things that the others don't teach. Situational awareness, surveying a possible danger zone, what to do if you do indeed have to shoot someone (statement/lawyer-wise), things like that. Very good things to know.

That's the main thing I need to learn. I know how to handle and use a gun. I don't know how to handle and use a lawyer.

Maybe I overlooked it on your site, but I didn't see any scheduled courses. Do you have any upcoming renewal classes scheduled?

I used Alan Easterly (contact info on p.1) for my renewal, called him up one morning, my buddy and I met him at his house THAT afternoon, went through the classroom shite, went down the road and shot and finished all in the same day. Dude is a gun nut, after we finished shooting the required stuff he starts pulling all kind of custom pistols out of his truck and let us shoot till we were ready to go

I would say he is the most convenient guy to get a course with, renewal was $60 I think, he did not do the notary stamp, but did provide you with the pictures you need to send in

Did not mean to, but after a few renewals it is repetitive. I always pick up a pearl or 2 with each class
