Full disclosure...
Sitting next to a wall. Saw the roach crawling and grabbed it with a napkin.
This occurred at the end of the dinner. The food and service were excellent.
Also, I found out how much our dinner would have cost and tipped accordingly.

Not an entemologist. Also, didnt look that close. Whatever it was, it should not be that close to my dinner.
Also, I get it....restaurants have bugs. Just thought the story was noteworthy.

Also, since it was handled correctly, I'm sure I'll be back...as long as we don't get deathly ill.

So why did you feel the need to post about it if they handled it correctly?

Apparently, that was supposed to be hush money. Snitches get stitches.

What kind of roach are we talking here? German roach?

Exactly. They handled the situation exactly as they should have. You yourself admit that it happens. This is South LA, for goodness sake, we have roaches. They give you $100 meal for FREE for your unfortunate experience, and you still feel the need to come on a very popular message board to let everyone know about it. You sound a class act.

Well, one could argue that no one ever talks about how a resturant does something right, only when they do something wrong. So, he's telling everyone how they handled it the right way and he's satisfied. I dont see it being anything unclassy.

True, but there's a big difference in between a tree roach and an infestation of german roaches. One is escaping the rain and/or is everywhere, and the other is huge trouble for a restaurant, especially to get rid of once they've taken residence. If you see one of these guys there are thousands more lurking in and around compressors, motors, etc, as well as their eggs. I'm certainly not saying that's what's going on here, but I'd be interested to know what kind it was. It's not at all unheard of to have an infestation, but still curious what kind it was.

AHHHHHHHHH I'm afraid of roaches and that photo did me in.

But yeah, I've always heard if you find a few really big ones, it's not a big deal because they're coming in from outside. But when you start to see small ones, they're living indoors.

I guess it all depends on how you interpret his message. If his message was meant to let everyone know that LA Lagniappe handled a common, although unfortunate incident the correct way and he wanted to let the public know what a great job the LA Lagniappe management did and how they take great care of their guest, then I guess you have a point and I apologize.

But if you interpret his original post as him basically broadcasting to the world that LA Lagniappe has a roach problem, then I think that is unfair. Its summer in South Louisiana. I bet everyone of us has found a roach in our house sometime in the last few months. If you invite me over for dinner, and I happen to see a roach at some point during my visit (and you sincerely apologize and are embarrassed), I'm not going to walk out your house screaming "LordSnow has roaches, LordSnow has roaches!!"

I guess its just a matter of interpretation.

Yep, and a beast to get rid of too. You really need to shut the place down, disinfect and go through every walk in, motor, nook and cranny and exterminate, then do a series of treatments afterward to kill the ones that hatched. It's nasty business, which is why cleaning up at the end of the night and keeping things clean is one of the most important things in a restaurant. Preventing these guys from taking over is critical.

That's why I asked if were a water bug. Everybody in La has seen a big arse water bug run across the kitchen/bathroom counter or floor every once in a blue moon

I love lagniappe and will continue to go on a regular basis, just sounds like an isolated incident .... No biggie

to address a few of the above comments:
1. it was a very small roach and looks like the pic above. i don't really know what that means, but i don't think it was a big tree roach out on an adventure.
2. to the poster that referred to me as a real class act... while my post title and initial short post was meant to raise some reaction, i quickly posted the facts about my experience at a local restaurant (which i thought was one of the functions of this board). i mentioned the roach, but i also mentioned the excellent food and excellent service. Nothing in any of my posts was intended to be inflammatory. I stated the facts and left it up to the readers of the message board to form their own opinions. I think i certainly could painted a picture that was much less flattering to the restaurant if that were my intention.

I'm wasn't trying to call you out or start an e-fight. I guess I just interpreted your original post wrong. As a former restaurant manager, I see those type things from a different perspective and I guess I just reacted too quickly and thought you were being a bit too critical of the restaurant. Honestly, I think you are bringing undeserved negative attention to very well run restaurant, but thats just my opinion. You are also entitled to yours.

I'm glad you are giving them another shot and hopefully your next experience will be roach free.

I grew up on Egret, across from City Park. This was our motto too.
