I wouldn't discount the intangibles that TM7 brought to the team

What worries me is that we may be losing sight of what he brought to the team - leadership, a swaggalacious attitude, and a winner take all mentality.

Let's face it, he wasn't that great in coverage. His takeaways were outstanding, but the big boys were not afraid to throw at him.

Like it or not, he brought a swag to the team and an energy, and they responded to him. I think we are going to miss this more than we are the CB play.

Thought about this myself, but I wonder if the refs would have really been watching him this year for some possible unsportsmanlike penalties. Anyway, never know now and i do agree with you on losing some swagger. Hopefully, this team has enough leaders to make up for the loss and I fully believe that we do in players like Eric Reid and Mett who seems to be garnering the leadership role.

Let me just come out and say this too:

People who NEVER embraced LSU before, especially BLACK PEOPLE, adopted Tyrann as the face of the program and LOVED him, and therefore LSU. He was a bona-fide and exceedingly rare positive CULTURAL FORCE. And the single biggest persona to come through this town since SHAQ. He made swag just part of the LSU package.

shite.

I'd say Yes to the intangibles that he brought. He was a special player in his natural ability to play the game. But as they say, there is no I in TEAM. TM7 was able to all out use that natural ability to play his game because of the others around him did there job correctly. Someone will step into that position and will have that same benefit that TM7 had. They will be able to use their skills that will be a benefit to them or it will open up possibilities for someone else on the field to use skills they weren't able to use when TM7 was on the field. It's not the end of the season.

BUT STILL!!!!

Reid will lead this D.

Losing Mathieu will hurt, but a better offense led by Mett will more than make up for it.

leadership? true leadership is shown on and off the field. leadership heeds the coaches warnings to not do that again. he didnt have true leadership. maybe on the field, but not off of it.

You're right. He exemplified a lot of great traits, but doesn't appear to have been a great leader, at least off-field.

Whoever takes his place has big shoes to fill, no doubt. Hopefully whoever steps up will come out with the same swagger... They should if they get the nod.

He didn't bring much leadership, LSU has had swag for about 12 years, and I would rather have a winner take all the right way mentality.

LSU has never been hurting for return game talent and they won't be this year. While Tyrann did make big plays on blitzes, LSU will still be blitzing and the end result will just be longer drives this season instead of a short field or TD on a fumble.

Mathieu was lots of things, but he was not and will never be a leader.

Leaders can stay off drugs for their teammates! Or at least stay on the team.

I think we're better off. As much as he brought to the team, he had to be taking just as much away. The players know his off the field actions.

Additionally, remember last year when he'd try to top his previous performance...He often got himself in to trouble. Personally, I don't think he could have improved upon or even duplicated last year's production. Therefore, I'm almost glad he's gone now. Another will step up.

Say what you want but TM7 had a knack for making plays whenever he was on the field that I HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE.

This quality will be extremely missed!

I will agree with you somewhat on the leadership issue. Real leaders don't get busted 3 times and kicked off the team. But on the field, the guy literally dictated how some of the games were played last year with his moxie and skills.

I still think we are gonna miss that intangible. Leadership can come by many definitions, and he led on the field by making plays. Off the field, he failed.
