We are really lucky we had stern and demps.

Comparing what the hornets got with what the magic got

Gordon
Unprotected 1st from bad team
Aminu
Expiring in kaman

As opposed to
3 protected picks from playoff teams
Mo harkless (a lot like aminu)
AA
Al Harrington

Feel bad for magic fans.

The Magic are retards.

They could have easily gotten Bynum and youth and instead they opted for utter crap and youth.

Their GM is an idiot. Even if you ultimately don't trust Bynum, you could still flip him for a ton of stuff since you wouldn't be negotiating from a position of extreme weakness with him.

But I agree with your point - Tagliabue and Stern have been very very good to NOLA.

The only thing they got for Dwight is becoming bobcats bad. They are going to be at the whim of the lottery for 4-5 years.

Much like the Heat, they have three greats in their starting lineup and question marks for the other positions.

This works out for them in the short-term as long as Howard returns from back surgery in good shape, as they are up there with the Thunder as favorites in the West.

Long-term, though, things will get interesting. They have no picks, Howard claims he'll test FA during the 2013-2014 off-season, and Nash is the only guy under contract for the 2014-2015 season.

Nash, Kobe, Dwight, and Gasol. they could win more games than the Bobcats just putting those 4 on the floor

Agreed on the Magic.

As the deal is currently structured, they get back a bunch of middling parts and only send out one shite contract in J-Rich rather than sending out their worst contract in Turkoglu.

As far as the picks go, the Nuggets, Lakers, and 76ers have the following available for the Magic's package-

Denver - All of their 1sts plus 2013 2nd (Portland), 2013 2nd (Golden State), their own 2014 2nd, 2014 1st (New York), 2015 2nd (Clip Show - top 55 protected), 2015 2nd (Memphis, may be cash instead), and the right to switch 1sts with New York in 2016.

Lake Show - 2013 2nd (Memphis - top 55 protected), NO 1sts available until 2017.

Philly - All their 2nds, 2013 2nd (NOLA). They have given up a protected 1st to Miami that must be conveyed by 2015 or it becomes 2 2nds.

That's a shite sandwich of picks. The "best" one in there is probably Denver's 2013 1st and that will be a non-lottery pick.

I thought Gasol was being shipped out as part of the deal.

If not, then this is better for them than I thought.

I don't see that as a net plus.

His play dropped off considerably last year and he's hardly stable.

I think there was less of a market for Howard than you think. I don't think they could have EASILY gotten Bynum or they would have. The Houston deal was a little better than what they ended up getting but that fell through in the end. Howard was and still is unwilling to commit past this year. Plus, I just get the feeling Bynum made it clear he didn't want to resign in Orl. during those talks.

bynum alone more likely and he'd leave in a year or 2. he said he wasn't re-signing in orlando so he wasn't an option

with 4 year max contracts all around there is no more "long-term" in the NBA when reviewing contract amounts/lengths

Just an awful deal for Orlando. Its even like they rubbed it their faces and put protections on the late 20s draft picks Orlando got. Just in case somebody's team bus fell off a cliff Orlando wouldnt get their lotto pick.

Every team that was in one of these no-win situations with star players wanting to leave managed to make out well, except Orlando.

I read that Houston's crazy offer was actually on the table and Brooklyn's offer was Lopez, Humphries, Marshon Brooks + 4 first round picks.

Turrible deal

There is alot of opinion that the Magic want to hit rock bottom, reset and rebuild (like the Hornets). Lopez and Humphries are both highly paid, so they would be hard to move and the team would still probably suck. The Magic will be horrible, but they have alot of guys they can still move that playoff teams might want. So I'm sure they will make more moves.

They got what they wanted though, which was Howard out of the East and not in Brooklyn. It got personal..

To be fair this is on their GM. Its not like great assets can't be had for superstar players even without a promise of an extension. Denver and New Orleans got fair value.

And Utah

So stupid on Orlando's part to let it get personal. Its business.

No lotto picks. No cap relief. No building blocks.

Harkless is all they got worth anything, and he's obviously an unknown.

Magic are so fricked. They'll have a Bobcats-esque season next year.
