Honestly, send them to public school until they are in 5th grade. That is when the environment starts to decline. Try to get them into a gifted program if possible.

I disagree. Id say that most kids leaving 5th grade in a private school are probably better at reading/writing/basic math than more than half of students in grades 6-12 in a bad public school.

Are there any methods to not paying taxes on the tuition?

Move to LA and take a state tax deduction.

I have thought about this before but not in the tuition context. I.e., my company would provide "housekeeping" services to one client, me, and instead of gifting them annually, I'd pay them a salary or wage, file returns on their behalf (likely no taxes at their "income" level, but being a taxpayer would enable them to do things like open a roth, etc.

Really depends on the school or district. If his only option is a ghetto public school vs private school then the decision is easy. On average I would say the public school teachers are just as good if not better (higher pay) If the public school has a gifted program then the education level would be higher than most private schools. 20k a year has to factor in.

And I agree that average test scores for a private school kid in 5th would be higher than a 7th-8th grader in public school. But that is because a good amount of the kids have idiot parents who don't stress education to their children.
