I know just about everyone on here thinks our defense this year will be better than last years. I am concerned about the inexperience in the LB corp and the DB's. Our dime package will have to contain some raw and inexperienced guys. I like that our schedule allows us to get some experience before the SEC wars but my opinion is that we are going to have to score a lot to overcome our weaknesses. 10-2 would not surprise me. I hope i'm wrong but whatever it is we will have a very good and exciting team. Let the games begin.

Secondary won't be as good as last year. But LB will be improved so it should balance out. The d-line will kill people.

you almost alleviate your own concern here...

i know SEC is totally different but these guys will get plenty of time to jel in sept.

i think the secondary will be ready to go and i feel ok about our LB's. and our DL is just plug and play awesomeness.

not that big of a deal, the dime back typically has a simple assignment and Reid will make sure they know what it is

so are you thinking they'll give up about 24-28 points a game?

Remind me how many games Brokers and Logan started before last year?

LB corps included Karnell Hatcher last year, who was not up to the fast paced process.

Addition by subtraction, in his case.

LSU lost the #5 pick overall from the DBs so it is just hopeful fans who 'think' they will be as good. We dont really know.

I think the thing that helps the DBs and young LBs to that 10-2 or 14-0 is that LSU is going to have the ball longer/more vs the best opponents.

The one thing that I think most people overlook is the loss of Brandon Taylor. The guy was the general of our defense last year. Loston may have a breakout year, and we really need him too, but our dime package will be interesting to watch without guys like Taylor and Baker in there. Also, Freak and/or Ego need to be ready to step up bc Downs will not stay healthy the whole year. Brockers will be missed when we go up against Bama and Arkansas who have great RBs

You can't throw the ball from your back and LSU has the best pass rushing defensive ends in the nation.

true, last year these same threads were proclaiming "you can't lose Nevis, PP7 and Kelvin without it hurting the defense"

This is my main concern. Brockers was amazing against the run.

It's not always about who you lose, it's who you have waiting in the wings to replace them. Losing Hatcher and Francois is a blessing in disguise. We simply cannot get worse than Hatcher and Francois. I think they combined for about 35 tackles last year. It's amazing how many blockers our DL can eat up and yet those LBs still could not be productive. Minter and Tahj both have a good nose for the ball. Our LB play will be improved. Our DL will be just as good as 2011. We have nasty DBs at the top but the depth is not very experienced. Those guys will be ok because of leaders like Reid and TM7 helping them out. Those guys know the playbook backward and forward. Our D is still nasty.

Reid is the new general. He's a little more than sufficient back there.

FIFY.

The secondary is pretty loaded with talent...with Simon, Mathieu, and Reid, you could possibly be looking at 3 out of the 4 starters being FIRST round NFL draft picks. I don't think anyone knows how good Loston really might be given that he has been limited by injuries his whole career. Maybe he could play to the level of a Brandon Taylor? Ronald Martin should also be a beast at some point. I don't think there is any reason this secondary wouldn't be considered one of the best 2 or 3 in the country barring any serious injuries.

The defense will be amazing.

DL - will be better, talent and depth and Haley

LB - better, you talk about experience, Minter was better than Hatcher last year. Tahj was the most consistent LB and has seen significant playing time. IMO there is competition for the 3rd spot which means the best player will play there, Barrow leads for that Will spot currently.

DB - our base 4 starters all have 2 years of quality experience and are very talented. I'm not concerned with the new guys in the Dime package because dime is for obvious passing plays. LSU will have Sam Montgomery and KeKe Mingo rushing the passer on those plays, possibly the best pass rush duo LSU has ever had.

i'm thinking they very well could give up that many against certain teams; arky, a&m and possibly bama and usce. i don't know what uf or au will have on offense.

spread offenses pass a lot. they set up the run with the pass. i can see us being in the dime a lot against arky and a&m. both also have potent rb's. uf usually is not that strong running the ball but if they can pass i expect us to be in the dime against them a lot also.

We may loose a game or 2 but we will have a better team this yr. than last because of the QB play

If Texas A&M puts up 24 points on this defense I will streak the Alabama game....... seriously.

Our ability to run the ball will keep opposing offenses off the field just like last year. None of the teams you mentioned, other than Bama, will be able to stop our ground game. Will will be able to control the LOS on both sides of the ball pretty much all year. November 3rd will be just as big as it was last year.

Lb will be better. If you noticed, minter wasnt the full time starter, him and hatcher split time at mike, we are also upgrading jones for francois.

We are returning reid and tm. Every team in the country would want those guys in the secondary. Simon might not be as good as the other 2 guys before him, but he also could be better.
