Burton > Nolan?

The Suit and the action were a couple of them.

I read this a couple days ago. In my opinion you can't compare the films because of a few reasons:

1) They were both made in different eras
2) They are artistically and stylistically different.
3) They are thematically different.

I like Batman '89, I like Michael Keaton, and I like Jack Nicholson. It's probably one of the most re-watchable films out there, despite the ludicrous third act.

An article from someone who doesn't get it.

Oh and Nicholson was terrible. Almost unwatchable today, and that has nothing to do with Ledger's Joker.

I'm just glad they called out TDK for being so impossible. The Joker did stuff that Al Qaeda couldn't dream of doing.

I'll never understand that, since he only voices Joker. I'm not saying he's not good (I've never seen/heard his Joker or watched the animated stuff), but it isn't really comparable to me.

FWIW, I liked Nicholson's Joker. It was cheesy and over the top in a lot of ways, but that was the point, and like Rolltide said, the style of the Burton universe.

Everyday of the week. Nicholson's joker is way overrated. Nicholson played Nicholson dressed as a hobo clown.

Burton's film was goofy and so was his Joker.

Nicholson may have been playing himself, but can you pick a better actor to embody the Joker besides him?

Pick a better actor? I rather pick a better script. Everything was ridiculous...to him falling in chemicals, to his ridiculous laugh, etc. I liked Nolan's better because it was realistic, darker, didn't have Jack Nicholson making cheesy jokes and no Michael Keaton.

Well no shite you don't understand it if you've never seen his performance. His voice performance is probably one of the all time great interpretations of a character.

This times infinity. The museum scene is laughably horrible.

I got TB's Batman on blu ray a while back and brought it over to the GF's, touting how amazing this movie was and how many great memories I had of it.

I'm not a comic purist in the least, but even I was shocked at how un-Batman this guy was. The kicker was towards the end when the batmobile rides into Ace Chemical and drops a bomb, killing everyone inside.

That Batman was a typical Burton flick. If he could have, Bruce Wayne would have been sporting scissor hands at one point.

I agree the film was hokey compared to the current version. But I can't really crap on the casting of Nicholson.

What I'm saying is it's his voice only...so it's not comparing apples to apples IMO.

No shite. That was the stupidest shite I've ever read. The only thing one I can maybe agree with is the final battles point. Everything else points to Nolan's being better.

Its still the most faithful interpretation of the character to date. When you read the comics, he's the voice that pops straight out of the page. His version could do anything without it being forced or gimmicky. He could poison the city's make-up supply for the hell of it or try and force two ships to blow the other up. His interpretation is the true essence of the character.

He's comparing one TB movie to the entire trilogy? Idiotic. The final fight in the first Batman isn't all that exciting either. Watch this movie again. I think we glamorize the past too often. Not saying it's a bad movie by any means, but comparing the two is just stupid.

once you just accept that one is a comic book movie and the other is a realistic interpretation of a comic book, all other comparisons are invalid

you can like one more than the other, but you cant say burtons is better because he has a batmobile and nolan's didnt. They both served their purpose in their movie
