I guess 25 years isn't much time, cause outside of people who have kids on the team, in the band or drill team or maybe a relative on the coaching staff, i don't know any one with HS season tickets.

Only in Houston or Dallas. I guess if you live in west Texas your life sucks enough that going watch high school football is a good time.

Or in the burbs where you can celebrate that sweet district title by treating yourself to some Applebea's.

Agreed. I want to either live in an urban area like I do now or way out in the middle of nowhere.

it would show a lot more support of the kids if they spent that money on academics. imo, our priorities are fricked. it's no wonder much of the industrialized world is passing us by. and i actually love football.

When I lived in Dallas a decade ago, I knew people who had season tickets to their local high school teams. And traveling through some of the smaller towns, everyone in the town was in the local stadium on Friday nights.

That's a nice pic, I have no clue what point you are trying to make.

Purely anecdotal on my part, but outside of NOLA, i've almost never see people ask where someone went to HS.

Exactly, but I agree, this is getting completely out-of-control.

I think it might depend on the type of colleges the people go to from the HS, or if they even go to college.

In smaller towns, sure, but that's not limited to Texas, that's the case for a lot of N La with schools like West Monroe, Neville, Evangel and other football powerhouses. There's a couple of St Aug guys that post on the LSU RB. Its not even limited to the south either, look at some of those schools in Ohio, Penn.

The big suburban schools with huge enrollments, I'd be curious how many people that go to games are just fans and not parents/relatives. Not sure about the mtroplex, but in houston, they are constantly building new HS's. The HS i went to is now a Jr High, the HS kids in my folks neighborhood go to is a new one built less than 10 years ago. I'm sure some of the traditional pwoerhouses, like Katy have some in the community that go to most games.

They were last year but they lost their QB and everyone else.

My Alma Mater is going to kick their arse in the home opener. Southlake is going to be ranked #1 preseason and Kenny Hill is going to dominate.

the point is people sure don't care about their HS to have a crowd like that

but i guess every game in TX doesn't draw 20k either

agreed, and I don't mean to sound like one of those people. I won't vote for something like this.

how do you know what they are spending on academics at Allen? Do we know what their test scores are like? Are they well below state and national averages?

They're really not, at least at the top, plus the US spends as much or more on education per student than the rest of the world.

When I was in HS at Southlake, the stadium, which was one of the largest at the time, regularly had 13k+ at every home game. Southlake only has 30k people in the town, so almost half of the town went to the game. And the HS only had around 2500 kids.

I remember Southlake played Euless Trinity one year in the playoffs at old Cowboy stadium and had 50k+ there. Some people think it was more.

That's not limited to Texas, but I don't think La has many, if any, HS with 4000 students. when you have that kind of enrollment and the teams you are playing have the same enrollment, you are going to get a crowd of a several thousand, just with students and parents/relatives of all the kids involved (team, band, drill team, cheerleaders etc).
