Do you often look into companies and their employees benefits prior to making a purchase?

You don't need to "look into" them when they go on Fox News to whine about a marginal cost increase to provide medical insurance to their employees.

While I take no comfort in whether or not a job filled largely by young college students still on their parents insurance provides insurance to all of their employees, having to go up 14 cents a pizza makes this seem like a non story.

Are you under the simpleton impression that provision of additional corporate medical insurance is what we're discussing?
Really?

My impression based on Schnatter's comments is that not only would Papa John's opt for the extra ObamaTax instead of more expensive insurance, but that this could also cost currently covered employees their existing coverage. You think that's a good thing?
quote:

"We're not supportive of Obamacare, like most businesses in our industry. But our business model and unit economics are about as ideal as you can get for a food company to absorb Obamacare," he said.

"If Obamacare is in fact not repealed, we will find tactics to shallow out any Obamacare costs and core strategies to pass that cost onto consumers in order to protect our shareholders best interests," Schnatter vowed.

Is pizza costing $0.14 more actually considered 'fallout'?

Now this is what you call tunnel vision. Reading between the lines this tells me that practically everything we purchase will no doubt have a price increase in their products. There will be at least one, if not many, companies that will raise their prices because of Obamacare whether they are directly involved with the program or not because there will be suppliers to these businesses that are affected by Obamacare that will raise their prices.

Trickle down effect will be rampant.

He is a fricking business owner, whatever political leanings he has I don't know or want to asshat. He is speaking in terms as the owner should regarding his operation of the company. You all of your ilk got butthurt when another businessman answered a question by a member of a religious media source and spoke in terms of his own private thoughts and ideas. You have said often enough that you would hinder of the freedoms in the 1st on a long list of your butt hurtdom.

Did they already provide health insurance for their full time employees? What you fail to see is that this is an added cost of this free Obomacare being passed onto the consumers. This will not be an isolated incident.

President and CEO of Papa Johns (just watching FOX news) says he has been forced to go up on prices of his pizza by 14 cents, to pay for his employees health insurance coverage...

The horror.

The price of a $15 pizza goes up about 35 cents a year in inflation alone.

No.
The horror is the degree to which OP assumptions are flatly wrong.

14 cents, to pay for his employees health insurance coverage...
I'll ask you the same thing I asked Jester (apparently leading to his exit from this thread), did the CEO say with the 14¢ increase he intends to continue pay for any of his employees healthcare? Maybe he did and I missed it? Did he?

I think that's the point of the post. Papa Johns pizzas are going up 14 cents per pizza in order to pay for employee h.c. Although, I doubt P.J.'s actually provided decent insurance to anyone other than management. They do everything possible in the food industry to keep employees part-time so they don't have to provide H.C., benefits, etc.

Oh no doubt that's the ""point"" of the post. Unfortunately, Papa Johns pizzas may well be going up 14 cents per pizza in order to NOT pay for employee h.c..

Those are the facts. They are facts which escaped the OP. Did they escape you as well?

If you're refuting the OP's facts you should do a little research yourself.

What about the Houston Papa Johns chain opener who is not expanding now due to Obamacare... Opening a new location would put her over the headcount and she'd end up with something to the tune of 200k in liabilities.

She had the mgmt staff set and was moving forward until now.

In itself, this isn't an earth shattering revelation, that Papa John's is increasing pizza prices by 11-14 cents.

However, it is reflective, in my opinion, of what we can expect across the board from most businesses.

And with commodity and food prices expected to continually increase, in part driven by the corn shortage which, whether you know it or not, is an ingredient in most foods nowadays, it's only going to get worse.

And on top of all that, with very little flow through from food price increases expected to hit CPI, people who have salaries tied to CPI aren't receiving greater pay to offset the increasing food prices and are therefore losing real purchasing power.

The middle class is about to feel a major, major crunch, of which the effects of ACA will intensify. This decreased real income also will continue to hurt the real estate market. We are nowhere near recovery. If anything, things should get worse from here on out, particularly given another four years of Obama whose policies seemingly give no consideration to the increased tightening the middle class is feeling.
