Was wondering if anybody could help me. I have a boat at my camp that washed up from a hurricane over 10 years ago. It's a nice tunnel hull and has no stickers on it or anything to ID it. I was wondering how I would go about registering it so I can put it on a trailer and fix it up to use as my freshwater fishing boat. I know the laws of acquisitive prescription and since it's been 10 years I techinically own it. I just don't know how to go about registering a boat that has been acquired this way. Thanks for any help.

I don't think it can be registered in Louisiana without paperwork...

Is the plate still attached to the back of the boat?

You would need to get a notarized affidavit from a judge or justice of the peace stating the details of how you came in to possession of the boat. That would make you the legal owner & serve as proof of ownership. Then just fill out the registration form & mail it in with the affidavit to LDWF.

I guarantee there are numbers on the hull...unless they were purposefully removed...

...slim chance that part of the boat broke off

Thanks for the info. And no I did not steal the boat you'd be suprised what kind of things turn up in our marsh after a storm surge moves through. Found the boat on one of our levees one afternoon while rabbit hunting and it wasn't a first time thing. We've found multiple boats that are usually destroyed but this one is still in fairly good condition and will need a bit of TLC but after some paint and banging out a few dents it'll be good as new.

Yep. There should be one set on the transom and another hidden somewhere else in the boat. Possibly under a seat or in a compartment.
