Was laying out with lil spicy earlier (will post pics later) and mastiff was outside with us rolling around in the grass... I noticed he went to the otherside of the pool in the azaela bushes digging around... About an hr later I noticed his eye looked like it was swollen shut. Nothing else on his face or head was swollen. I also noticed a little scrape on his snout...

Could this be some kind of bite? Maybe a snake? I went to the back near the bushes but didnt see anything. Im gonna bring him to the vet tomorrow

Snake bites usually bleed a good bit so it probably isn't that.

Coulda just got his eye jewged by a stick or something.

Thanks! I didnt even think about that!

So it may be safe to wait it out a couple of days and see if it heals instead of taking him to the vet? I mean he doesnt seem like hes in any pain or anything like that

Just come over in your "laying out attire", and I'll give the one eye a peek.

Well I'm not gonna tell you that and have your dogs eye fall out and you coming kill me

If it was my dog I'd probably wait a few days if it doesn't look too bad. Post a pic of it.

Oh yea and mandatory post boobs pics request.

Had a lab once that liked to go fishing for turtles. He would dig holes in the shallow end of a pond about three feet from the bank and periodically check them for turtles. He caught a bunch but that's not all he'd get.

He got at least two snake bites, one on his lip and one on his ear that sound similar to your dogs injuries.
I never saw any blood from it, just a golfball sized lump that went down after a week or so. My moneys on a snake bite.

Keep an eye on him and watch for difficulty breathing, etc. He'll probably be all right but be ready to make a run for the emergency vet just in case.

Give it a benadryl and see if it starts going down by tomorrow.

My wife is a vet. That was her advice.

Benadryl for sure. Any chance it is a mast cell flare up from all of the activity? Have you noticed any small bumps near his eye in the past?

My dog had similar swelling and my vet said it was probably an allergic reaction (possible wasp sting). Benadryl cleared it up.

If no blood then I'd say some kind of sting from a bee, wasp, hornet etc. I'd watch him after a benadryl and see what happens.
