I am looking to purchase this concealed carry pistol. I am hearing they are great for CC. Must be pretty good bc you cannot hardly find any in stock. Checked all the area gun shops but cannot find any. There are a few online sites that have just a few available. Anyone have any experiences with this pistol? Would be nice to know before purchasing one.

I would not get a 40 in a sub like that.

First, ballistics coming from a short barrel like that one aren't favorable.

Second, the 9mm will be much more controllable.

Third, 9mm is cheaper to train with.

Forth, 40 is a dying fad among law enforcement agencies.

All of the online reviews/publications are giving thumbs up reviews this gun. Most are saying the recoil is surprising low with this gun. Not much more than the 9 mm model. Why do you say the 40 caliber is on a downward trend? What caliber are they leaning to now?

S&W is WAY overrated. If you want a larger CCW, get a single-stack .45 Glock or XD.

Are you saying the shield is overrated or S & W as a whole? Have you had any experience with them personally or just hearing others?

Just received my 9mm Shield - have not shot yet but plan to do so tomorrow.
I could not find one locally either (Little Rock) but go to Gallery of Guns.com. They had 18 9mm as of Thursday - did not check on 40. Good prices (cheaper than Academy) and delivered to a local dealer near you, in my case overnight. This one is for the wife to keep in vehicle/carry.
Check out S&W M&P Forums for much more info, but initial thoughts are:
1. Very good size for CC or vehicle
2. Very impressed with trigger for a DA pistol. As good or better than my DA/SA Sig
3. Per the forums, no issues at all with 9mm but some reports of magazines falling out on 40 Cal
4. Again, per users, very accurate and low recoil for a compact even in 40.
5. Comes with 2 mags, one 7 and one 8 shot for different grip length to suit you.

I will let you know how it actually shoots, but so far I am very pleased, especially for the price ( just over $400 delivered inc tax. I would advise checking the forum above for more research, but I looked at Taurus Millenium Pro 111, Glock 27, Walther and a few others before deciding on this one.

Check out the Gallery of Guns site. Site for Davidson's wholesale & they ship to a local dealer.
Also, anyone looking for a HD shotgun they had a Mossberg 12 Ga with 2 barrels (28" and 18.5") and two stocks (standard and pistol grip) for under $400.
Gives a hunting and HD gun for one good price. Listed under "Davidson's Exclusives"

I was of the impression that cops went to the 40 due to knock down power. They liked the 9mm but wanted more knock down power. ?????

I still like my 44 mag personally.

Thanks for the info. I had not heard anything about the mags falling out with the 40 sw. Will do a little more research. Can't wait to hear how your 9 shoots. I will check out the forums. Both the 9 and 40 are very hot items right now. Will be a challenge to find.

Well FWIW, when I bought my Sig 40 the people at Sig told me there is little difference in the 9mm and 40 stopping power with today's ammo available. I really like my Sig 40, but thinking seriously about getting a twin in 9mm. Academy put the 9's on sale for a week a while back for $369 so may wait & see if they do it again. (That was for the SP2022 model - very good pistol for the $)

I tried hard to find one but nobody in town nor online had one. I picked up the XDs instead and will be taking it out to shoot for the first time today.

I will still get a Shield in 9 when I run across one but fell in love with the XDs once I put my hands on it.

I already have a 9 for truck and cc but wanted a larger caliber. I have a 1911 but it is a full size and too large to carry. The shield seems perfect for cc. Less than an inch in width seems like the best fit.

Looking for a shield 9 myself. Already have the Xd and G19.

Couldn't find Davidson's on the site. It'll only price me for the local retailers. Advice?

That's how it works. They will provide pricing thru available dealers in your area - you just need to select the dealer u want to use (price, location, etc). They will get a deposit of 25% of MSRP & ship to dealer. Mine came overnight, but may take up to 2-4 days depending on location.
Dealer will call when in, then you pick up there & pay balance. Worked great in my case - I had called dealer beforehand & they said they work with them regularly & no problems. No returns tho unless defective.
Good luck !

How much cheaper than Academy? I bought mine from there for 399.99, and that is much cheaper than anywhere else.

I got one after stalking all the Academy stores on the Northshore. Called each one until they were getting a shipment in, then was there at 8am, before they even put them on display. Again, only 399.99, and that is 20-60 bucks cheaper than Bass Pro and other sporting good stores

$367 + shipping & tax was $407 total delivered. I prolly would have gone w/ Academy if they had one, but found that site since AS did not expect any more in locally. Price will vary a little depending on dealer u use. I saw up to $20 difference here in Little Rock/ Benton area.

Do you have to pay an FFL fee on top of that? I assume not since you are paying the conveyance tax.

It works out to be roughly the same, depending on the prices of FFLs in your area
