Tiger fans,

I have been trying to find a hole in this year's tiger football squad, but I have been unsuccessful! I cannot see any team on our regular season schedule or even in the country putting up more points than LSU in any game this season if we stay healthy. Here is a breakdown of this year's team by position vs. all other NCAA schools. I want your opinion and welcome comments in favor of or against my rankings! This information is all off the top of my head, so I may have a minor error here or there, but for the most part, the information is accurate and correct! In other words……NEGATIGERS KEEP YOUR STUPIDITY AND COMMENTS TO YOURSELF!

OL – With Alex Hurst, Chris Faulk, PJ Lonergan, Josh Dworaczyk and La’el Collins starting, there is no doubt this is the nation’s best or top 5 to say the least. The average OL lineman is 6’6” and 340ish. WOW! (SEC projection ranked #1, national projection ranked # 1-2)

RB’s – The depth of this RB crew is SICK. The scariest part about it is that none of these six studs are any older than a sophomore. The talent and depth of these athletes with the OL being so strong will carry this team to Miami in January (SEC projection ranked #2-3, national projection ranked #15-20)

WR’s – If there is a “weakness” on this team, you can give it to these guys. They are young, overall with the most talented receiver being a true sophomore O. B. Jr. If Russell Shepherd can perform like a 5-star athlete and ESPN #1 ranked overall player in the country out of HS in his senior season, it will be scary to see how the passing game rips apart opposing defenses. (SEC projection #3-4, national projection #20-25)

QB – Master Mettenberger should perform as the experts predict. There is a ton of talent at this position in the SEC, but ESPN.com recently named “The Master” as the NFL Honorable Mention QB to get drafted this year after he throws for over 3,000 yards. (SEC projection #3-4, national projection #8-12)

DL – The best way to describe the LSU DL this year is easy….it’s a brick wall! Mel Kiper predicts two “freaks” to be top 5 overall picks in this year’s NFL draft and the rest of this wall is strong, big and fast too! (SEC prediction #1, national prediction #1-3)

LB’s – Last year, this was the biggest weakness on the LSU team, but this year with Kevin Minter filling in as a Butkis Award nominee and the tenure and experience filling in the other LB spots, there will be a HUGE improvement at this position. (SEC projection #3-5, national projection # 15-25)

Secondary – The Honey Badger is back! And along with Eric Reid, these two studs are both projected first round NFL draft picks. Simon and Loston will be two more additional experienced and talented backs that will hopefully allow TM7 to do his thing if the corners can cover similar to what Mo Claiborne did last year. (SEC projection #1, national projection #1-3, definitely top 5)

Punter – This is the easiest position on the team to score. I’ll make this real simple to understand. If you’ve never heard of Brad Wing, then you don’t watch Sports Center highlights. Last year he was on the 1st team All-SEC team and an All-American who is projected to do the same this year. This happens when you can punt the ball 82 yards and put it inside the red zone more than half the time you punt. What’s amazing to this story is the Australian BEAST did all this damage as a freshman and returns for his sophomore season with high expectations! (SEC projection #1., national projection #1)

Kicker – Alleman was "money" last year setting a new LSU school record for most consecutive FG’s made. He made All-SEC 2nd team kicker and returns to do more damage. He’s basically “automatic”! (SEC projection #2, national projection top 5)

Remaining players on special teams – I had to make a special category that separated the kickers from the rest of the special teams posse! WOW! If an opposing team can make it past mid-field once this season, it will be a shocker! Miles has created talent at special teams since he has been the man in charge! The consistency of talented LSU special teams has been arguably the best in America. That’s usually the case when your SPT coach wins national Coach of the Year! (SEC projection #1, national projection top 5)

Well done. I don't know if I agree 100%, but I'd say you make a strong valid argument. We do look good and certainly stacked in many positions.

Just can't wait.

Most were fair. Tough to put Mett up at 3-4 in SEC just cause we havent seen what he can do but he has talent.

Awesome post!

I'm unsure of two things:

RBs ranked 2-3 in the SEC. Yeah USCe has Lattimore and Ar-kansas has Davis, but I think the quality mixed with the depth at the position gives us the edge at #1 in the SEC.

QBs ranked 3-4. I think Mett is going to have a great year and tear shite up. However, there are some really good QBs in the league and he's going to have to have a really good season to be in front of them. Mizzou has good QB, Bray, Wilson, Murray and that complete DB in gumpville.

I hope he proves all of that wrong though!

Solid post and

Also, when I send this out to personal friends, there feedback was similar to your comments. Their main concern came from the QB and LB position, not the WR position as I stated!

I'd say in the SEC:

OL-#2 (Alabama's is very strong)

RB-#1 (Deepest in the country no doubt)

Is this true? I thought we had a couple of Sophomores last year that are now Juniors, such as Ware. Am I mistaken? I hope that I am.

This is true...Ware, Ford, and Blue are all juniors this season. Hilliard and Magee I believe are sophomores and Hill is a freshman.

Also, how could you mention Shep over Jarvis Landry when discussing the WRs? Shep = Garbage

My mitake on the RB's! Now that I think about it, I do recall Ware being a sophomore last year. I really wanted to mention Jarvis Landry, especially after watching clip of him on special teams, but Ive gotta believ RS will come around in his last year, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I recently posted here that Landry reminds me so much of Michael Clayton with the hard hits he puts on special teams. I hope he ends up being as good of a reciver as Clayton too. Finally, just like I mentioned in my opening statements, I apologize for any minor errors, but I did no research before I wrote this thread. It was all of the top of my head! Thanks!

Get your garbage out of here. Shep is a great player. The guy still scored 4 TD's last season after coming back off suspension. I support him because HE IS A TIGER.

OK, then let's move up the ranking of our RB's a bit. The reason I dont rank them #1 is beacuse although I believe our depth is #1, you dont have 6 RB's on the field at once. There are defintely better RB's in the country than Spencer Ware who is our #1 RB on the depth chart!

Definitely true, however, quality of depth definitely has to enter into the equation. Think about what happened to USCe last year when Lattimore went down...the thing about LSU is that if the #1 (whoever it may be) goes down there is no drop off to #2,3, or 4. There is simply no one else in the country who can say this.
