Some people hated it but I found Bane's voice to be the most intriguing part of his character. I absolutely loved it. When you heard his voice in the prologue from under the hood it gave me chills.

I honestly liked Bane more than the Joker. The Joker was a better character no doubt but I found myself actively rooting for Bane while watching the film. I never wanted the Joker to succeed like I wanted Bane to.

Sorry if this has already been discussed in the 10298347 Batman threads bc I didn't read them all. Just something I found interesting.

I loved the Joker's character - definitely have to go with the Joker.

I love the actor who played Bane though - maybe I'm hard of hearing, but I found several parts of Bane's dialogue very difficult to understand. The beginning of the movie was awesome though.

It was a far cry from the Bane in Batman and Robin.

I'm with you. I thought it was a great elemental part of the movie. Helped to separate and define his character.

I personally thought Bane was one of the best villians in any movie I have seen.

Whew that's a tough sell for me. His character had potential but there's just too little development of it. Need more/better backstory and something to connect us to him on an emotional and cerebral level. I didn't get much of that from Bane like I did from the Joker.

At first it kinda threw me off, but after a few scenes i started to like it.

And wasn't Bane's character supposed to be a genius?

He was a very secretive character. The Joker liked and wanted to tell about his past. Bane's past was told by someone else.

I knew nothing about Bane's character going into the film. Never read a Batman comic. There were glimpses of something deeper but I would have liked to either been told more or been shown more. His scene with Bruce in the prison was fantastic. The final scene where things are explained was rather empty.

In the comics he received a classical education in the prison. Some people have wondered how some brute in a prison came off as so smart.

Spoiler Alert

Here's what I don't get. Bane tells his story of growing up in the dark of the prison (which is accurate to the comics). Then at the end they made it as if he was using Talia's story for his own. No mention of two children in the prison. I really didn't like how they took Bane's story and just handed over it to Talia.

Bane was not meant to 'rival' the Joker in terms of screen presence or personality; his sole purpose was to be the ultimate test to Batman, one who is both physically and intellectually capable of matching Batman, kind of like what Bruce could have been had he given himself over to unrequited hatred.
As anyone who follows Batman knows, the Joker is the primary antagonist, and will always have more psychological nuances than any other villain (with Catwoman coming in second place), which is why the personal interactions between Batman and the Joker were so pivotal. Hardy/Bane easily succeeded in portraying the biggest, most formidable opponent Batman has ever faced. As good as TDK was, it lost track of Bruce Wayne a little bit. TDKR restored Bruce to the focus of the movie and made his "rise" the central focus. Bane was, in a symbolic way,the most powerful figure Bruce would ever have to face on his way towards his redemption. Hardy/Bane succeeded on every count, in this respect

Talia's story was being told as Bane's,when in actuality Bane was the prisoner who saved the mercenary's child (talia) and helped her escape. Talia was the only child in prison; we were (wisely) lead to believe it was Bane. Whats hard to understand?
