Budweiser Zip Code Beers - Project 12

It appears that Budweiser is trying to enhance it's portfolio of beers by creating localized "craft" beers. They are having a competition between the 12 sites to narrow it down to 3 which they will put in a sampler pack.

None seem interesting except for the one from VA which will be a bourbon aged lager. Other than that more basic lagers.

I'm still not wrapping my head around exactly what's going on here. Probably because HuffPo's article formatting is fricking terrible.

A light-amber all-malt bourbon cask lager

This should set off a light bulb. Like using all malt is a special "trick". It's how you get taste out of your beer, unlike their all-rice recipes.

ETA: i'm going to try not to be too critical. I do applaud them for actually trying something different.

In addition to St. Louis' 314, the following area codes have been trademarked by InBev/A-B:

$$$$$

They got the money. I'm 95% certain that this shite will fall flat. Craft brew appreciators, mostly know about the BMC machine. That's why they drink craft brews. Bud trying to claim their shite is "craft" is laughable.

I read the second article linked. Better explanation. Sucks that they're all lagers but good job by Budweiser for at least trying to do something different. Although I'm sure this is just a push to try and squeeze grassroots craft breweries out of the market.

After this is all over I'm sure they'll pick one or two to put out year-round.. call it a craft brew.. change the recipe.. and mass produce it just like they do their shitty products now.

That's why I no longer buy Budweiser. Yes, there are times I want cheap and easy, lots of cans for certain times, but I'll buy Old Milwaukee, Schlitz or Busch. That way, the big guys get less of my money, and to be honest, I find Old Milwaukee has more flavor than Budweiser. It's almost as if Bud has become too "clean" in its taste.

If you don't want to give money to AB-Inbev, don't buy Busch. They probably have similar margins, so buying Busch over Bud doesn't do anything as far as profit to them

I'm aware of that. I figured by now Old Milwaukee and Schlitz were pretty much under the BMC umbrella...one way or another. Maybe they aren't?

I'm just saying that now, when I go the route of those types of beers, I just buy the cheaper ones. Miller High Life is another, $7.99 for 12 pack bottles rather than $12.99 for same thing of Miller Light.

In all though, unless it's a "cheap" occasion, I go with one of the smaller craft/microbrews.

Why wouldn't we condemn it? ABInbev's angle to put small brewers out of business

Does anyone think that this has the potential to backfire on Bud. Not in terms of how craft beer drinkers probably wont buy into it but in regards to converting other drinkers.

Hear me out:

So Bud makes these beers. They turn out really good for what they are, which no reason to think otherwise since Bud knows what they are doing even if they make crappy beer. Bud convinces some of their drinkers to try these new styles from their favorite brand. All of a sudden these new interesting beers (to Bud drinkers) excites their palates and they start to look at other more interesting beers, thus drinking less Bud. Thoughts? Seems to be an interesting outcome to kill some more time this afternoon.
