Are there better big men? Absolutely. But like Lopez or not, getting him for a summer league player and two future 2nd round picks is a killer pick up for Dell:

quote:

The rest of the deal included the Timberwolves sending small forward Wesley Johnson and a lottery-protected first-round draft pick to the Suns, sources said. Brad Miller’s expiring contract goes to the Suns, while the T’wolves receive Jerome Dyson and two future second-round draft picks from New Orleans.

Absolutely. Two 2nd rounders and a D-leaguer for a true center with potential? Dell is doing work.

we needed a center and we got a young one without giving up any major asset and did not take on any bad contracts. I do not see what is not to like.

Idc what these "experts"here say about Lopez. The kid can actually play. He isn't an allstar obviously. But he is solid and exactly what we needed to bring Davis along properly. Can't wait for Lopez to prove a few wrong. Dell is on his way to huge things.

This is how I feel about it. There are better centers out there, but I didn't see the Magic knocking down the door to trade Howard for two seconds and a d-leaguer.

Here are the FA backup centers that have signed so far this season:

Camby $4.4
Mahinmi $4
Brown $3
Gray $2.5
Thabeet $1
Collins $1

The only one I think I'd rather more than Lopez at 3/$15 would be Gray at 2/$5, but he wouldn't come back here to be a limited minutes center.

I think/hope Monty is going to drill some defensive mentality into him which is all we should really need him to be.

Lopez seemed great everything we played the suns. I felt like Gortat hardly played against us which wasn't the case but still.

Lopez made those 10ft jumpers pretty well.

I think he'll benefit from Hornets halfcourt style. Suns played more of a fast pace, fast break type of game (gave zero shits about defense). Hopefully Monty can groom Lopez into a solid center. He's nowhere near allstar talent though.

I think it may be even better than that...

Those 2 2nd rounders are probably the same ones we got from Minny in the original Brad Miller trade last week.

That means we effectively got Lopez, Warrick, and cash for a D-leaguer and a top 55 protected 2nd.

we didn't really trade for lopez as much as sign him, though. it's good though, b/c we signed him to a reasonable deal

if anyone saw lopez play, he's actually pretty damn decent, and at certain points of the season looked better than gortat last year.

He's alright. I still think we need one more center and a real starting SF. I don't know if these issues will be addressed until next year, but Demps has been so solid. The only thing he did that I didn't like was get rid of Jack, but I understand he was going to be traded down the road anyway.

I think Lopez has alot of potential and still pretty young. With the talent we have at PF, Lopez should fit in well and improve with little stress on his shoulders.

Agreed. We get Lopez for 3 yrs for what we wouldve payed Oak for 1 and it won't be that much of a drop off. Neither had much offense but at least Lopez brings a bit of a mean streak and maybe just maybe he won't be scarred of breaking a nail throwing down a dunk.
