Can someone give me a breakdown of the differences (pros/cons) in the following axle ratios? Specifically, how do I apply which one is best suited to me for certain conditions?
For example, my current truck uses include: Hauling a 23ft boat, 12ft utility trailer with outdoor toys, 33ft 14k lb fifth wheel trailer
Axel ratio's:
a. 3.55 Electronic Lock
b. 3.55 Non Limited Slip
c. 3.73 Limited Slip

Non limited slip- If one wheel starts to spin in the mud for example, all of the power goes to that wheel.
Limited slip- if one wheel starts to spin (Mud for example) it moves power to the other wheel. not quite as good as a full locker.
Electronic lock- locks up your axle so that both wheels get equal power.
3.55-better MPG
3.73-more brute power

All three ratios are close enough to be the same. Besides, it depends on a lot of other variables. Engine size, tire size, etc.....
The limited slip and e lockers have to do with traction. You want the limited slip most likely, but that too varies with situations.

Ford
So based on my above uses, I'm thinking you guys are recommending the 3.73 given my towing needs?
