I see no real strategy in drafting or picking a kicker. Outside of David Akers last year, the next 10 or so kickers were all neck and neck with each other. Thus it is just who's kicker has a better week which is a total crapshoot.

I relate this position to closers in baseball and the saves category. I know a lot of people really don't see a lot of purpose in having saves as a category.

Has anyone else thought of eliminating this position altogether?

Yeah there really isn't. They probably should be eliminated, but I guess they add a little bit of fun to it. Like when you beat some one because your kicker went off. What a great way to win!

I get much more into statistics in baseball than football. Especially roto leagues. I view football as more randomness and it adds to the excitement of watching random games. So having kickers just adds another aspect to be interested in when watching the game.

hate having kickers...any league I manage in I make all fgs 3 points...it's fricking retarded for a 50 yd fg in some leagues to count more than qb tds (4pts)

I would rather have a "return guy" position than a kicker.

I would be a fan of dropping the kicker from our league, but then again we have always used them so I can't see it happening. They are a bit of a wildcard player which can be fun at times.

I also liked the idea of replacing the kicker with a return man.

I find it entertaining to pull for my kicker's team's drive stalling.

You can say this about TE and D too.

Eliminate those too imo

I've got it setup so that XPs count for 0.5 pts and all FGs are 3. I'm thinking about lowering it to 1 pt for 0-30yds, 2pts 30-40, and then 3 for 40+.

I was mainly trying to gauge if other people have considered this and if maybe they have their league setup in a way that I havent considered. I get it that kickers are pretty much a staple in fantasy football and if you eliminate them, you are really starting to nitpick and may indeed be taking away some of the fun of it.

I just dont really see any positive they add other than giving you another position to root for. Their entire productivity is based on the offense "stalling". That seems dumb IMO. As someone else mentioned, I think it makes more sense to add a returner etc.

I really like the idea of watering down the point total.
