Ben Sheets pick up for fantasy baseball...
Posted by YMCA on 7/19/12 at 9:50 pm00
I personally know Ben and I picked him up as soon as he came to the house and told me he was giving it another go. He made me look like a genius in game 1. Do you think it will last or should I have someone waiting in the wings?

Whooaaaa!!! You know THE Ben Sheets???
Very funny squirt box. I included that as a way of saying I picked him up because he's a friend and was curious as to if I should keep him or drop him regardless of the friendship. Name dropping isn't my thing. It's a simple fantasy baseball question and me wondering if you let friendship dictate your actual roster. I played professionally for a few years so I know quit a few guys (that i don't mention)but I actually know Ben from playing together at NLU/ULM. Mater of fact I was on the team when LSU bet us in a regional at the box.

This thread is pretty good.
I would definitely keep Sheets. Unless it is a really shallow league. Looks like he's still got his control and ability to get some K's. One concern, I read where he's throwing his changeup a lot more, and he was really leaving it up in the zone. Could result in some HR's. He also threw it more to righties than lefties. Of course this is a sample size of one game.

It depends on how deep your league is and who is available in free agency.
Hey y'all, off topic, but my buddy got called up and he's been doing alright, so I'm thinking about picking him up. My current OF is:
David DeJesus (beast!)
Jose Tabata (due for a big 2nd half)
Josh Reddick (monster)
My buddy's name is Mike Trout. Should I pick him up?

Good stuff guys. I honestly could care less what you think when it comes to me using his name. It very obvious what i was asking and the only reason i said I knew him was b/c that was the only reason I picked him and/or would keep him. I figured the best place to go to find out if I should keep him would be on a board where the majority of you spend your life getting ready for fantasy drafts. I do this for the hell of it and every draft I had was done by auto draft. Name dropping is when you try to impress peope and I could give 2 shits what anyone on a message board thinks of me and who I know.
Hell, If I was into name dropping I would tell everyone sbout how I got to know a certain Yankee b/c I stepped on his shoe tassel and broke it as he was getting off the bus to play against Grambling St. in an exhibition game.

But name dropping isn't your thing
By the way, you laugh about it but I'm willing to bet that 50-60% of the people that get jobs these days got them b/c they knew someone. In other words they had to "name drop" on either the application or during the interview or they wouldn't have even got the first look. It's all about who you know these days and the higher up they are the better.
