The ferry scene where each boat has the detonator to the other ship's bomb....

Do you think the joker made each detonator to blow both boats or have blown up the remaining boat anyway?

Basically, would he have killed everyone anyway?

I say yes

No. He would have wanted the "citizens" to have lived with their horrible decision.

This. He was trying to see if he could make honest citizens turn into killers.

But if he blew the remaining boat his point would still be proven or if the detonator blew both he still turned normal citizens into killers

For him I always imagined it was about the psychological torture of the people on the boat

Maybe the convict button blew both boats. The civilian boat would just be the convicts and make them live with the fact they just murdered people.

I still have an issue with Batman just walking into the room where the Joker is at the end. I know there were dogs, but Batman could've come up with a more effective way to confront the Joker.

No cause then only the people on the boat know what happened.

He wanted to prove to everyone that people were bad. He was playing for higher stakes than the lives of a few people(relative to population of Gotham) on a boat.

I've always believed that each detonator blew up its own boat

This is why he is such a good character. Nothing is as it seems even if it is.

Bigger question: Why, after the Joker's blown up half of Gotham and the ferries basically being his idea, did no one bother to check the boats for tons of rigged oil drums?

Why do the Chinese allow Batman to escape in a plane with the speed of a Vespa after he's blown the frick out of a highrise and kidnapped one of their most prominent citizens?

I think it had to do with the "Bridge and tunnel crowd are in for a surprise" threat he made, forcing everyone to place all the emphasis on the bridges and tunnels.

By the time everything had registered in the Chinamen's minds, who were in that skyrise, I'd say by the time they made the call, the government most likely wouldn't have been able to identify that plane because it would've been too far out of reach.

Just a guess off the top of my head.

And here's a piece of advice we learned from TDK: Never allow a Chinaman to handle your investments.

No that would ruin the entire point. He didn't just want them dead, he wanted to see what would happen.

Here's one that still hasn't been answered:

"5 dead, 2 of them cops."

Nolan said he would answer it in time but to my knowledge, he hasn't yet. Maybe it will come out in TDKR?

I get his point but when you watch the movie for the first time you feel like anything can happen. I mean that's what made it so great for me. And the joker is so unpredictable and ruthless. I could see him blowing away the surviving passengers anyway to add insult to injury.

He's the freaking joker

Hmm maybe the 2nd cop was the one in the hospital.

From another forum:

quote:

Maroni, his driver, his bodyguard, Officer Wuertz, and Dent...but Dent is a DA not a "cop" right?)

I also watched the BD-Live commentary thing with Nolan back in '08, and someone asked him about this. He said he would answer it at another time.

1) Maroni
2) His Driver
3) Dent
4) The cop watching Dent when the Joker came into his room
5) The cop Dent shot in the bar
