Legendary keyboardist and Hammond WIZARD Jon Lord has died. This guy was a hero to me growing up.

I'll play the live version of "Wring That Neck" on the drive home in his honor. What a player.

I've lost one more of my rock n roll heroes. My Heavenly All-Star Band just got quite a bit better though.
I've been listening to his solo work, Sarabande, as a memorial to his talent.

An original. With a style that ought to be duplicated but isn't. Blues/classical mix with some madness!
The Hammond took on a sinister sound that fit the band during their most popular era.
Been a huge fan since 1972.
Jon Lord was an essential part of Deep Purple. He's what set Purple apart. He intertwined great improvisation runs on the keys in with the loud noise and distortion of the other members. Hard to mix beauty with chaos, but he did. Tasteful and not sappy. Took real genius to figure this one out.
I think of Jon as a classy guy who said f*ck it, I think I'm be one of the guys! He looks like a classical musician today with the ora that surrounds one. He is legit in the classical community. But his fans from Purple know he can rock and kick arse!
To maestro Jon Lord!
