Retriever Training

Anyone have experience (both good and bad) with trainers around Baton Rouge? Particularly those that aren't going to cost an arm and a leg.
I've got a one-year old female black lab that needs additional obedience/retriever training and I just can't seem to consistently carve out the time to train her myself.

What do you call an arm and a leg?

Most prices are around $500/month. Steve Riggins is the man that produces stud dogs.

Just know that Steve hard is hell on his dogs which is fine for 90% of retrievers. If your dog has a soft heart, like mine, then Steve is the wrong trainer. My current dog can not take hard negative correction.

Steve and Kim Riggins, Chuck McCall and Jason Moore (Chumac Kennels), Mark Smith in Norco, Ed Thibideaux in Morse, all train some fine animals. If it's just advice you need,Amite River ret club has some pretty knowledgeable members. Look em up on the web.

I'm with amite ret club. We are actually having a traing day at Steve's house this sat at 7am if you'd like to come check it out. Plenty of people there to help with any problem you have.

Understatement of the day. My dog peed on himself when Steve took him out of the kennel. I left with him that day and never went back.

Training day is open to all. Jay Dufour in Pine Grove is a very good gun dog trainer. 225-936-4013.
Steve is known to be very tough on dogs.

Steve trained my dog and I didn't have any problems. He has been great since I got him back. I'm thinking about sending him back for two months to finish hand signals and blinds.

I've seen this on here but I can't say I experienced it before. I used another local trainer in the past who I thought was a good bit harder on dogs than Steve. That dog still turned out good.
Maybe I have just had hard headed males but I have never had a timid lab. All mine have been hard headed males who loved to test me and see what they could get away with.
