I would also include a copy of the US Army Survival Manual in Bug Out Bag.

US Army Survival Manual

Don't bump without contributing, dude.

If all possible, one should make sure all the battery-powered devices he bugs out with use the same batteries. And then have spares.

I don't know much on the subject, which is why I bumped.

If I don't bump, it would sit on page 10 with no one viewing it.

If I do bump but don't contribute, it brings it to the front for others to read/contribute.

Naaaaamean?

re: -----Official Bug Out Bag Thread-----

So I took some time today to tear my BOB apart to inventory and upgrade. A list of what I have, some pics, and a list of what I think I need. Tell me what you think:

$150 Vodoo Tactical backpack. I was told not to skimp on the backpack. That's a MAS 49/56 bayonette.

9"x6"x3" first aid kit from Cheaper than Dirt. It has gauze, dressing, tweezers, tape and scissors.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2013.47.47.jpg width=800

Freezer bag full or rags. You'll see I have lots of my stuff packed in ziplock bags. Keeps stuff dry in case of a leak, rain, ect.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2013.49.06.jpg width=800

A multi-tool I keep on a shoulder strap.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2013.49.42.jpg width=800

Small flashlight. I need to change this. It doesn't use the 123A batteries like all my other stuff.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2013.50.44.jpg width=800

More first aid stuff. Gauze, H2O2, dressing and athletic tape. Athletic tape holds well and has some stretch.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2013.52.20.jpg width=800

Light rope.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2013.55.54.jpg width=800

Dry dryer lint.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2013.56.25.jpg width=800

Three, 1 pint water bottles. I carry three of these.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2013.57.10.jpg width=800

Pop-top soup in a can. I like beans and ham.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2013.57.40.jpg width=800

Grill lighter. It doesn't work.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2013.59.18.jpg width=800

Utility knife. I carry spare blades.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2013.59.49.jpg width=800

Baling wire.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2014.00.19.jpg width=800

I also have a smaller fanny pack that I can actually wear below my main pack if I want. More on that later.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2014.01.35.jpg width=800

A cheap compass.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2014.02.09.jpg width=800

Simmons 10x25 binoculars.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2014.02.59.jpg width=800

Protein bars.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2014.03.40.jpg width=800

A shitty gun cleaning kit. I need a better one.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2014.04.26.jpg width=800

Mags for my FAL. I carry 8 in my main pack and 6 in my fanny pack.
Image: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4534831/2012-08-12%2014.05.07.jpg width=800

Stuff not in the pics: Two windshirts, 30 gal garbage bags, plastic grocery bags, JB Weld, superglue, 3 chemlites, 2 chemical footwarmer packs, zipties, liquid soap, a 200 round battle pack of ammo for my FAL.

I also have the fanny pack. It is intended to supplement the main pack and has food, water and loaded mags. I'm to fat to walk very far with both. If I had to abandon my vehicle, it would get ratfricked for supplies and left behind.

Stuff I need: So kind of flint fire starter, duct tape, water purifier (I just ordered one of those Life Straw things.). Find back the hatchet I had that I borrowed for something else. A fork. A spoon. A flashlight that uses 123A batteries. A better gun cleaning kit. Vice grips. Ziplock freezer bags.

What else?

How heavy?

Maybe get some water bladders instead of the bottles duct taped together that looks really heavy.
