Dog training question

I have a 7 year old golden retreiver and I've recently been taking him to fetch a decoy and swim. When he goes into the water he just walks in, any tricks/tips to get him running and jumping in full speed? I'm determined to get him flying in and out of the water.
He's a very smart dog, well trained house dog so I'm sure I can teach him! Thanks in advance

Sometimes, getting a buddy with a fast working lab out there to generate competition will help. But with a 7 year old golden that hasnt spent his life working, he may just take things at his own pace.

Thanks. I figured something like that would work or maybe piss him off because the other dog would beat his arse to the decoy. I'll def kep that in mind though!

You can try by getting him excited on land first then transitioning to water, but I'm thinking that a 7 year old golden just care enough to get what you are looking for.
