Headed there tomorrow for a little vacation. Saying in a cool little hotel downtown. I've done some research, and have some things in mind. But, does anyone have some recommendations for some must do restaurants and/or bars?

Hank's and Peninsula Grill are pretty solid places!

Reservations are hard but the upstairs porch is first come first serve. If the weather is nice it's one of the best seats in town.....hard to catch a break in July/August with the heat though.
For lunch head to Butcher and Bee for a sandwich. Or go late night.
Hit the bars on Upper King.
One afternoon head to Poe's for a beer or two. It's on Sullivan's Island. Good beach as well.

Lots of threads on Charleston.

Someone asked this same question a few days ago.

Geez...where to start.

First, stay away from North Charleston for obvious reasons. Avoid Hyman's.

Tell me a little more of what you are looking for. I fully stand by anything listed below though.

Restaurants:

High Cotton
Peninsula Grill
Fig
Bessinger's BBQ
Cypress
Husk
Hominy Grill
82 Queen
Jestine's
Al Di La
The Wreck
39 Rue de Jean
Hall's Chophouse
Toast
Cru Cafe
Magnolia
McCrady's
Coast Bar and Grill
Fat Hen
Alluette's Cafe
Poogans Porch

Bars
Closed for Business
The Blind Tiger
Charleston Beer Works
Tattoed Moose
Smoky Oak Taproom
Squeeze
Moe's
Poe's
The Gin Joint
Burn's Alley
Boone's
Tommy Condon's Irish Pub
Market Street Saloon
Griffon

Just got back from Charleston last night - we stayed at the Market Pavilion Hotel. Great place. Ate dinner one night at the 225 Grill - great steaks, but $$$$. Had dinner one night at the hotel's roof top - the appetizers filled me and my gf up.

Ate one night at Magnolias - fantastic fried green tomatoes and their shrimp, sausage and grits was great.

Raw oysters one lunch at A.W. Shucks - expensive, but best I've had in some time.

Have to get back there soon!

Hyman's

That place used to piss me off! They block off parts of the place to make sure there is a line outside. All of the cab drivers recommend it because they get a kick back.

It is just a total tourist trap man. The food is okay, but in a town like Charleston you shouldn't and don't have to settle for "just okay". There are so many other better choices in Charleston.

I know! I used to work at the Double Tree, so I could see people waiting in line every night. I knew one of the managers at Hank's, so I used to get hooked up with some awesome meals as long as I tipped the bar tender a $20!
