Just a bit off topic, but as for Bobby Bowden's image: a good friend is a college ref & used to call Fla.St. games all the time. He said that Bowden would walk right up to him, standing on the sidelines, eyes on the field, and curse like a drunken sailor at the ref on the field who had pissed him off. From the stands it would look like he was just standing there.

That's probably par for the course. Les has cussed at public gatherings (i.e. Bayou Bash in 2007).
Nobody called him a saint...but when you play/coach a game, and get paid to do it, and your livelihood depends on how many games you win, I can see this happening almost everywhere.

The records and legacy were the reasons Sandusky was allowed to prowl for kids from 1998 on. I dont think its an overreaction to take the records away. I do think you need to evaluate your moral compass though. Especially when you call an enabler of child rape the "best thing that happened to that program"

Dude you need to realize that the sick disgusting things that happened were Sandusky; yea the Penn State higher ups knew about some alegations, yea they knew about an investigation that apparently didn't find enough to convict him at the time. But none of them KNEW he was molesting kids, do you honestly believe those guys would just let Sandusky molest kids and get away with it???
Yes they absolutely should have done more, they should have made 100% sure he was innocent before they moved on and took him at his great reputation. But it's not like all these guys were covering for him like you seem to believe.
If it comes out that it was some fricked up situation and Joe Pa and the other higher up guys were knowingly covering up his molestations, than yes their names should all be thrown in the dirt, but thats not the case

Have you heard of Mike McQueery?
have you kept up with recent news
So lets just go with the basics from what we knew in the beginning of the case. In 98 they have disturbing enough news that Sandusky gets fired. In 2001 McQueery witnesses Sandusky performing sexual acts with a child in the shower and goes directly to Paterno and yet JoePa and his buddies still dont do anything. Sandusky had a key to the facilities and was taking kids up there THE WEEK HE WAS ARRESTED! Joe pa etc. knew evidence and just walked by him in the hallways pretending to not know why he had kids around him. THEY KNEW! You dont just brush aside MULTIPLE accusations of molestation. They didnt want to lose the money in the football program and the records and legacy that were at stake.

They knew evidence and they refused to investigate the evidence, but they didn't actually know. The only person that apparently saw anything was McQueery and HE should have gone to the police
Eta: I'm not trying to defend these guys I just think people saying they should be tarnished forever and nobody should ever be able to bring up all the good things Joe Pa ever did are being a little ridiculous

I just....I dont even....
You get told multiple times about a guy being at the very least inappropriate with minors and you dont investigate it THAT IS ENABLING A MOLESTER! I mean its not something that gets just said lightly like "I heard ole sandys banging his secretary" you get told this not once but multiple times and you dont do anything then ITS A COVERUP!

Dude I'm not saying that; I think what happened there is just as fricked up as you do, I think the Penn State officials (including Joe Pa) not acknowledging it is just as fricked up as you do, I promise.
I just don't think we should completely forget all of the things Joe Pa did in college football because of one fricked up situation, that's all I'm saying

Joepa fricked up and for that I think they should tear it down. He can have all the accolades in the world, but all it takes is one frick up and his image is forever tarnished. You'd have to think he knew it would come back to haunt him sooner or later.

To be fair FSU played the best team in the SEC in that era(UF) every year anyway nobody else in the conference was that good outside of UT and Bama for a couple years.
