CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Michael Jordan said there's no way Kobe Bryant and this year's USA Olympic basketball team could've beaten the 1992 Dream Team.

Jordan told The Associated Press Thursday that he laughed -- "I absolutely laughed" -- when hearing Bryant's comments that the U.S. squad training in Las Vegas could take Jordan and company.

Jordan said there's "no comparison" which team is better.

"For him to compare those two teams is not one of the smarter things he ever could have done," Jordan said prior to playing in a celebrity golf tournament in Charlotte.

"I heard Kobe say we were not athletic," said a smiling Jordan as he sat in a golf cart puffing on his cigar while waiting to tee off. "But we were smart. He said we were too old, but I was 29 and in the prime of my career. Pip (Scottie Pippen) was 26 or 27, (Charles) Barkley was 29, Patrick (Ewing) was 29 and Chris Mullin was 29. Almost everybody was still in their 20s."

Yeah yeah, there is a thread on Kobe's comments already, but: 1) MJ is the GOAT and deserves his own thread; 2) this thread is about MJ's comments rather than Kobe's

And for the record, the Dream Team would destroy this 2012 Olympic team.

'92 had 9 hall of famers. I'm not sure this 2012 squad will have more than 2.

1992 and 2012 are built completely differently, its just a silly discussion.

You'd have to completely overhaul the roster of 2012 to deal with Robinson/Ewing/Malone/Barkley up front. No chance Chandler doesn't foul out, and he'd have to be on the court the whole game.

Regardless of any talent differences, the 1992 team is built like an NBA team, and the 2012 is built for the new international game.

Well, he probably didnt believe Bobby Hurley, Chris Webber and some college kids could beat them either. We all know how that turned out.

Kobe and LBJ are the only 2 sure things. Durant has a ways to go and maybe Paul I guess? Who else?

If careers ended today, yes. But Paul might already be in, and will for sure by the time his career is over same as Durant if he keeps it up. There is also a lot of reason to believe guys like Deron Williams, Russell Westbrook, and Kevin Love have a pretty good shot as well.
ETA-Assuming no career altering injuries.

I'm not sure how much he played, but if those guys beat the dream team I'm pretty sure the 2012 olympic team could beat them. I'm not saying the 2012 team is better, but they could definitely beat the Dream Team.

Paul is a lock. Durant far ahead of HOF pace. Melo, D Will, and Love have a good chance as well.

Kobe and Lebron will continue to gather up whatever scraps fall off Jordan's table of legacy while they ride out their careers in his shadow. Congrats to both of them for a tie for 2nd best.
