You will see who and what the highest bid is.
I believe after someone makes a bid, say you bid $40 on Arian Foster, the clock starts at 10 seconds, and everyone can beat your bid.
Clock restarts to ten after each higher bid. I'd say the average time for a pick in an auction is around a minute, and possibly 30 seconds once half the rosters are filled out.
yes..and they can select the starting bid price. also, the nomination of a player is automatically a $1 bid by the nominator, unless a higher price is chosen
ETA---and it goes a heckuva lot faster than an offline auction..b/c the timing is quick, after a player is won, the next guy up in the "draft order" has 10 seconds to nominate a guy, or it autonominates the highest rated available player in the pool

The way it is live is that someone through a draw gets to go first and noms a player then bidding starts - like an auction with an auctioneer. And everyone gets to bid until - going once, going twice - SOLD! Then the winner noms the next player and so it goes until rosters are filled. Bids start typically at $1.

So after the first bid, are people just throwing bids from all over the place or does it go down the line, allowing each person a chance to match or pass?

Ive never done an auction and have always been interested in them. Definitely seems intriguing and strategic.

Everyone has the chance to beat the highest bid on every player at anytime. (assuming you have the money in the bank--it will limit you to have at least a $1 left to fill out every position on your roster).
A ADP first round pick will go from nomination to being upbid 20 or so times w/in seconds.

I've done quite a few auctions, and after your first one you will never want to do a regular snake draft again.
The worst is when your hand gets caught in the cookie jar driving up the price on a guy, and you get stuck with him

Yeah Ive been thinking about how much that would suck
I actually got the league I run to switch to an auction as well. Half the league is pissed, but they are just intimidated I think.

It works exactly like any real auction does. You have an order but thats just to take turns nominating players. Anyone and everyone can bid as long as you still have as many dollars as players left. If you have 20 bucks and 3 roster spots left, your max bid possible is 18 dollars cause you have to have 2 dollars for your 2 roster spots left. Its a free for all and you can usually bid in any increments you want as long as its 1 dollar higher.
I got my hand caught in the cookie jar a few years ago pumping up Warner after i already had a QB. Luckily i traded him in draft for a few bucks less than i bought him for.
Thats the only good thing about live auction drafts is if you do get stuck with a player you can trade him for cash during the draft.

I believe you can do a random ranking for waiver wire, but lots of people like to use FAAB for waivers in auction leagues. Also lends to more skill.
eta: For those that don't know FAAB is free agent acquisition budget. You get say 200 dollars for the year and every week you have a chance to put a max bid on players you want to pick up. After the deadline the players are assigned and then the player pool is just like regular FA pickup till it gets locked again at the end of the week. Some have it where you pay the highest bid and some have it where the highest bid wins but you only pay 1 dollar higher than the 2nd highest bid.
