Average height and weight of our O-Line per DD. Jesus H Christmas that is big. Should that yield a couple of 1000 yd backs?

Last year they had some big lineman come in. But 6'6 does seem really tall.

That is (really) large. With our backfield we should be moving the ball up and down the field.

I know a lot of you don't care for Todd Mcshay(sp?) but during the combine he related that several NFL scouts told him they looked for OT at or just under 6'4" because of the whole leverage and range deal. Said the big 'uns 6'5", 6'6" + were just too easy to get under their pads.

Didn't Coach Miles play O-Line in College? I guess coach could not get a scholarship at Michigan today!

Yeah it's taller than norm but it's not that big of deal with OL as it would be for DL. You want your OL to have the longer arms. Especially since you're seeing lighter DEs with speed. Its good to be able to get your hands on em and have a little mobility yourself.

That's true to an extend imo, but if the height difference is that much then the reach comes into play. Use those big arms to keep a shorter guy off you and control him with that separation.

Easy to look up based on Dandy Don's depth chart.

C PJ Lonergan 6-4, 305, SR
RG Josh Williford 6-7, 324, JR
LG Josh Dworaczyk, 6-6, 301, SR
RT Chris Faulk 6-6, 325, JR
LT Alex Hurst 6-6, 329, SR

6-5 4/5 317lbs

A quick scan of the projected starting O-line:

average = 6'5.8"

Substitutions:
Collins 6'5"
Alexander 6'6"
Porter 6'4"
Hawkins 6'6"
Fanaika 6'6"
Edinburgh 6'8"
White 6'3"
Turner 6'2"
Austin 6'6"
Washington 6'5"
Davenport 6'4"

yep. Miles was 6 1" and playing weight of 225, as 3rd string OG.
He also wrestled in the Big Ten, until junior year, when he began to focus only on football.

Back then no one had a 300 pounder, unless he was a fatty nose guard.

It's crazy to see how much bigger players are now.. I'm good friend with a guy named Darren Landry that OG back in the 80's and he played around 6"2 280 and was 1 of the bigger starters on the team. Also friends with Nacho, C from the same era and he topped out at about 265-270.

I hope these guys play up to what they're being billed as because this could be a special group.

According to the listed heights (however accurate you might think they are) - LSU offensive linemen (counting walk-ons) range from 6'2" (Prairieville's Gabe Langlois and New Orleans' Trai Turner) to 6'8" (Derek Edinburgh, Jr., also of New Orleans). Williford is listed at 6'7" and we have 7 listed as being 6'6" (including 3 freshmen).

We have 2 at 6'5", and several in the 6'3" and 6'4" range, so the 6'6" average, doesn't quite ring true, as for every 2 players 6'2" or 6'3" you would need a 7 footer to average that out, it could be the answer is 6'5" and change, and someone is rounding up.

Again, counting everybody on the roster in an OL spot (not TEs) I get 18 players, total, with an average height of 6 feet, 4.94 inches. Maybe DD is not counting walk-ons?

Weight, I get a 315.27 pound average, for 18 players and a total weight of 5,675 pounds.

So, to be fair, 6'5" and 315 pounds, counting everybody as listed on the roster as C, OG, OL and OT. The claims were both just a shade over 1% off - not bad.
