Have decided to follow MLS. Need to choose my team.

I moved to Iowa City from London about 3 months ago. So being here it pretty much comes down to a straight choice between Sporting Kansas City and Chicago Fire.
I'll probably go to/through KC a lot more as my wife grew up in Kansas and her family live down in Fort Worth - we'll be making the trip down regularly. I like the downtown area in KC. On the flip side, I'd like an excuse to go to Chicago when I can finally drive and have my own car. And we'll probably be moving out of Iowa next May, to DC, L.A. or NYC, which will make Chicago far easier to visit.
Can anyone tell me much about either team? Not the boring shite that I could google in 10 seconds, but the interesting things.

I can tell you that SKC's fanbase/Atmosphere is third only to Seattle and Portland, and that they have the best Stadium in the country. They also have a really good, young team. Chicago is all around meh.
