Ok..just purchased ram and MOBO (sabertooth Z77)

Going to Houston Tuesday and will be picking up a CPU from MicroCenter...need some advice. Looking at these 2:

I7
and
I5

Is the I7 worth the extra $100 if I don't plan to do extreme shite on my PC? I've heard great reviews on both so I know I can't go wrong on either. What would the advantages be??

TIA

I would go I5. I would also consider returning that motherboard. Micro center has killer combo deals. Usually at least $50 off

While I agree that i5 is a better deal for gaming than an i7 (the extra processing power isn't really used for gaming and it is a pretty steep price jump), I would argue that i5 3570k is just as worthy of your money as the 2500k.

eta:

OP, unless you have piles and piles of money to spend and you absolutely have to have the top of the line no matter what, I'd go with the i5. It will take care of your gaming needs just fine. You'd be better off putting that extra money into a better GPU, an SSD, or more RAM (assuming you don't already have plenty of RAM).

There is no such thing as future proofing.

Also, 1150 will be the new set as of next year's Haswell(if it is not delayed).

ended up going with the i5 3570k. Very happy with the choice.

Here is what the build ended up being.
core i5-3570k ...$229
asus sabertooth z77 mobo...$220
12 gb of g-skill 1866 ram...$74
120GB SSD 6gb/s for boot drive (boots in 15 seconds flat and restarts in 25 seconds )...$89
2TB Internal HDD 6gb/s
750 Internal HDD 3gb/s (reused from last PC)
LG BD/RW
Cooler Master 212 EVO - best purchase ever...$35

decided to sell my GPU as I'm still undecided which route I want to go.
Any suggestions? Not trying to spend over $200 for one.

We have very similar builds, except I went with the asrock z77 mobo and the 2500k.

I have a BNIB GeForce 550ti that I bought but I'm not using. If my RMA gets denied I'll sell it to you. I went ahead and got the radeon hd 7850

The GTX 670 is EASILY the best bang for the buck right now.

I went with the Ivy Bridge just because it was newer and had a few extra features I liked. The MOBO is just freaking badass. my wife who doesn't know what a MOBO is was like woah that looks cool. Love the dust protection and built in features. I would definitely recommend it.

Does anyone have any monitors they are wanting to get rid of? I'm debating between going with 1 big monitor or say 2 23-26" monitors.

I just don't see the value. Everything that I've read says the 550ti will play just about every game with no issues and it's only $150 compared to $400 for the 670.
What justifies the extra $250?

1 more question...If I am wanting to do dual HDMI output...does the GPU need to have 2 HDMI outputs? I'm thinking if I ran HDMI through a splitter it would have same image on both monitors or am I wrong about that?

I've been very very pleased with my 560 ti and it has dual HDMI out to address your next question...you can use a splitter if the card supports extended vs. mirroring.

Also just general comments on the build, looks pretty solid, but why not 16gb RAM? It's so cheap for the price point compared to everything else you can add to a build.
