I've read that Johnson clipped his heel also. Based on how he fell that would make sense.

There is no way you can argue that the way he fell was in any way natural. He pulled the old Ashley Young throw your legs out from under you and collapse over the ball move.

Challenge from the rear and two hands in the back. I think I can argue the merits of the penalty that was awarded.

Antonio is an honest player.

I like Valencia a lot. I have praised him numerous times on this board.

He easily could have gone down when he originally won the ball.

Would have been a worse dive than the PK.

quote:

For me that was the most impressive play of the match. The speed with which he recognized his opportunity and seized it was remarkable.

I know, right! Like, how in the world did he decide to keep running when there was nobody in front of him?!?! His awareness is stunning!

Yes, of course you can make that argument. There is no question that the penalty is up for debate. Valencia clearly was playing for the penalty though and he took a dive, watch the replay.

Take a look at how far Tony was from the ball as compared to the defenders. The speed at which he made the decision to go for the ball is incredible. A weaker player would have gone down from the challenge of the two Liverpool players. Didn't one of them have to exit the game?

Fine, even if we accept that there's a 10% chance it's a legit penalty, which is still absurdly high, how on earth is it more of penalty than the challenge on Suarez in the box? Jesus Verm got called for a softer penalty than that against Montpelier. It's the inconsistency of calls in the same game that makes people so incredulous

The Kids and Rooney get a 2-1 win today. Good stuff all around...Newcastle made it interesting late.

Read this on Twitter earlier:

"Interesting from Sky: 10 years ago Ryan Tunnicliffe's father put a bet on his son one day playing for #MUFC. Debut tonight means £10k payout"

That's what you call faith in your boy.

Wonder how small of a bet that was, I mean the odds had to be astronomical eh?

Maybe something like £10 or £100.

Rory McIlroy's dad made a similar bet when Rory was a kid. Bet all the members of the golf club they played at that Rory would win a major before he turned 25. Or something like that.

If you want to argue that was a "soft" penalty or valencia went down easy I might agree, but a challenge from behind is a challenge from behind. Links clearly show contact from behind, period.

It seems to me that most ppl aren't arguing the call itself but more the perceived inconsistency of calls. I never have been in favor of arguing one call on the basis of another. You can challenge consistency of calls in of itself, but don't tell me this was not a legimate penalty because liverpool didn't get a call on the other end. Let each call stand on its own merit. Yes I am a united fan, but seeing it live, I thought we would get the call and nothing has been said, linked, or anything else to change my mind.

BTW that red card was deserved too for shelvey, anyone arguing that is just biased against Man U.

I'm guessing evans did nothing wrong in your eyes going in with two feet studs up?

God, I hate Evans. I personally didn't think Jonjo deserved the red card for several reasons, but dipwad Evans's challenge on the same play is the main reason.

I personally think they both should have got yellows like RVP's challenge later in the match.

Also either don't call valencia's penalty or call both his AND the time skrtel (or was it agger?) got dragged down in the box.

ETA: Consistency is all I want to sum it up.

I can go along with this, and yes evans should have been punished for his tackle. I don't disagree or mind challenging a refs consistency, but don't argue one call is wrong based on another call, let each call stand on its own merit. Bottom line valencia was fouled whether or not evans committed a fouled, to sum it up. Was the ref inconsistent, absolutely, see the difference?

Again, Valencia may have went down a fraction of a second too early, but the referee can't see that unless he has slow-mo vision.

Yea I mean, you watch it live and looks like a penalty, just alot of united haters out and about......I actually like liverpool, arsenal, chelsea ect. (except when they play united) so perhaps I have more of a unbiased view?
