I'm about to get a flood policy, but I'm out of a flood zone.

It's about $350 for the year. I figure it's worth it for peace of mind.

What do yall think?

I know a few people that were out of the flood zone last year when a huge storm hit. Their shite flooded and they lost everything.

Look at topographical maps of the area to see if you might be susceptible to flooding from pooling due to heavy rains.

Also, what is your elevation?

i guess it depends on your elevation. My home sits at 50' ASL, and the flood of record I believe was at 44.7 in my area, so I don't have it. It's not the heavy downpour that would get to my home, but backwater flooding from the Comite. So I feel safe not having it. Just depends what your situation is.

Its only a dollar a day- $365 gets $250K on my house & $100K on contents. To me its worth it.

There are places where you know you won't flood.

I doubt there are hardly any such places in Louisiana.

I bought it a few years ago after the river in Iowa flooded a few years back. I live by the Red River, and while it's never gotten as high as where we live, those people that lost their homes said that same thing (We've never seen the river get this high). For $1 a day, it's totally worth it to me.

I am purchasing a policy tomorrow. I am not in a flood zone, but just think it's the reasonable thing to do.

Depends on the area and how well you know it. If you've been there for years and there is no way you'll flood don't get it. If you are unsure, get it. $365 for the max policy. I think > 25% of all flood claims happen to people in preferred ("not in") flood zones.

If you live south of Alexandria, you should have it. $365 a year is worth it.

My old house was not in a flood zone, but when it rained hard by back yard would flood. It never really got close to the house but I wanted to cover myself just in case.

I got a policy for $75k and $25K contents for like $130 a year.

My thinking was if my house ever did flood it would only be a few inches or 1 foot max in the house. So what would it cost to replace all the floors and baseboards and half the sheet rock on the walls.

Its not like they are going to give you the max of $250k if you have 6 inches of water.

Get enough to cover yourself but why spend all that money on the max when you know you are not going to get Katrina type water in your house.

This is true...but you also may have to replace furniture, etc., and for $30 per month, I figure go for it all. You never know.

For that amount of money, if it helps you sleep at night, go for it.

I need to get a policy but havent yet. The neighborhood I moved to has never had water, not from the May flood in '95 and not from Katrina. I have never seen standing water in my street in the 3 years I've lived here. My neighbor is a meteorologist and she told me they picked this area after she ran several flood projections at work.

YES. We know people who were not in a flood zone and about 3 months after they moved in to their home, rainstorms deluged the area and they had no flood insurance to cover the damages. Nightmare it was.

There are plenty of them in N. La, if water ever gets in my house, all of La and most of Miss will be underwater.
