I'm taking it you are pretty underwhelmed by this signing?

I see the red flags, but I'm pretty excited... he's just a player I've been following for a few years... probably has a lot to do with it..

Underwhelmed isn't the right word. More like cautiously optimistic.

I see the value and low-risk aspect of this transfer. And overall am pleased that we are bolstering the attack. But I'm going to tame my excitement until I see him play in the Prem.

The thing is, his prime is 4-5 years away at the minimum. We'll see some good performances before then, but expect a Lucas-type transition. I love that our club is buying young, but it's worrisome that we just gave the #10 shirt to a 20-year-old with almost no European experience. It would be nice if we were in a situation where we can develop him for the future, but not have to rely on him at his current age.

Also, I hope this doesn't steer us clear of inquiring about Eriksen. At £22m there is value there and he is a polished player ready to handle 9 months of European football.

I really just have an odd feeling about him. I'd do anything to be dead wrong though.

gotcha...

I expect him to be a little frustrating off the bat with his decision making, trying to do too much, etc...

I was kinda hoping he'd "earn" the 10 shirt, but maybe he's one of those guys that builds off the confidence shown in him (looking for something here)... I think it's done wonders for Sturridge..

Anyway, I'm overly positive so maybe we'll cancel each other out...

Ready for this afternoon!!

Overall, good window so far and Ince might be left to bring in.

Cleared £4.1m off the wage books and brought in 2 young forwards for £20m. shite, United virtually paid that for Zaha alone.

Need to focus on CB, LB and DM in the summer. Maybe bring in another forward on a free (there's a few decent players available).

We are also suppose to get a little over £1mm with Insua going to AM (sell on clause)

An interesting stat this season in the championship is that Ince has 16 goals and 10 assists, while Zaha has 5 goals and 0 assists (what I read earlier in the week)...

Also, what do you make of Ashley Williams at CB? lots of rumors... His stats are pretty strong when comparing to other EPL CBs..

I can't even think straight at work I'm so excited/nervous for this one. I'm DVRing it and will watch when I get home. Seriously considering faking an illness.

Good player, familiar with the system, little transition. What would his fee be? £8m? £10m? I'd rather buy a 25 or 26-year-old, but would be satisfied with Williams as long as he quits running his mouth.

that's the price Ive seen quoted... Obviously, he and Suarez would have to have a little talk...

although I dont think he'd have the same issues playing on his team...

Suarez is the type of player you hate if he doesn't play with you and love if he does. He drives all of our defenders and furthers their development in training. Williams would come to appreciate him.

Did Joe Cole have a year left on his contract or did it end this summer?

I don't know that much about him, isn't he one of the Swans CB's?

Yet as I have expressed before I'm not completely sold yet on the other Swans guy we already got ... so I'd say no.

I wish we could get Caulker from Spurs but doesn't seem likely :pipedream:

Just saw this on Reddit. Let's hope Coutinho can be half as good as Barnes..

Barnes was a witch on the wings... awesome! He transitioned to be a solid CM in his later days, too...

Good thing in Cou's (yes, I'm going with that) interview is he said he just wants to play in attack, close to goal... nothing about CAM...

Like you, CE would be my dream summer signing...

I know we'll learn more, but as long as we keep LS, I think a big name/first team striker can be crossed off the list... I really believe DS will be that 20+ goal a year guy to lead our line... Now we can always bring in youth and versatile players up top...

What about my previous question? Was Cole's contract up after this season?

His contract was a 4 year deal signed in the summer of 2010. He would have had one more year remaining.

Gotcha. That means the amount we saved in his wages + Sahin's paid for Cou's (credit TFTC) transfer fee.

I'm trying to figure out what number Luis Suarez will wear at Bayern. Ribery is number 7. Robben is number 10 but maybe he'll leave. It's so exciting to think about!
