Got an opportunity to join a low budget lease for dove and geese. Have not hunted either in quite a while so I need to gear up. I have a good rig for geese Rem 1100 w 30' full choke. Want to find something used for doves in th $250.00 price range. Wha t could I expect to get for that?
Oh and I know I'm po. Not an OT baller!

I'm sure you can get a used 870 12ga for that if you look around.

There's several new guns on the market in that price range as well.

Also, you could buy another barrel for the 1100 with the choke you want.

Don't be slingin steel shot down that fixed full choke barrel...

What's the concern with shooting steel in the full choke? And yes I am considering just getting a new bbl

i shoot improved modified for geese.

Once I finish my box of 3.5s left over, i'm switching to 3's. didn't see enough difference to justify cost and recoil.

ETA i'm looking at the 2000.

If you have an older style barrel with a fixed full choke, steel shot will damage it.

I suggest buying a new barrel for the gun that is threaded for interchangeable choke tubes. Should cost you around $200 and you'll be able to use the same gun for everything. That's just what I would do.

ETA: A newer barrel with a full choke rated for it will handle steel shot.

i've seen a barrel blow up because of that, the steel shot doesn't compress and deform like the lead pellets and those older barrels aren't made for that

yea i'm pretty hard on my 870 in the field although I maintain it well.

I think it's going to be weird not holding that 870 every morning.

I've never seen one blow up, but I have seen them acorn in the forcing cone.

Steel shot will definitely frick up an old full choke barrel.
