Need Advice for Work on a Boat or Should I Sell It

There is a 1982 Duracraft 17 ft. aluminum boat that I can have for free. It was my father in laws and was well cared for until his death in 1998. He gave it to one of his sons but it has stayed in his yard since then, uncovered, cleaned out every now and then, but currently full of leaves and even has a sapling growing in it. From what I can see, it needs to be cleaned out and pressure washed inside and out. The trailer tires need to be replaced, axles greased and possible rewiring of lights. There is no motor on it so I will have to purchase one. It would be fun for my son and I to have to take out, but I am not familiar with the brand of boat. Will this be worth the time and effort including checking the boat for leaks or should I just clean it up and see if I can find a buyer for it? Input will be appreciated.

I have one of about that vintage...check it out closely to be sure it is sound, as mine has some rivets that are just falling out (never seen this before)....you may as well clean it up, because you are basically gonna have to give it away if you don't...

Buying a motor plus doing all that work...I'd pass unless it has some sentimental value to you.

It sounds like it will be a pain in the arse.
If you are financially strapped and that's your only option. Then do it. If not I would scrap it and buy something newer and in better condition.

Thanks for the comments. The sentimental value is important to my wife, but there are times in life when you have to let go. I think this is going to be one of those times. Probably will clean it up and see how much it will bring a Craigslist. Thanks again.

thats really not a lot of work for a free boat. new tires plus wiring it, you are probably only in for $100.00 or so. find a cheap motor or even a trolling motor , fish in small ponds.
