Why on earth did Jogi Löw start Podolski?

I can understand bringing Mario Gómez back in, but Reus should have started that game.

As an Arsenal fan, that game makes me worry a bit. That said, I'm going to try to keep a level head about this and not panic over one bad game.

I dunno...I'm just not convinced with him. But hey, maybe Wenger can get the best out of him?

Eh, there was some solid stuff from Arsenal players this tourney. Walcott should have gotten more time. I thought Kos was decent for France. Rosicky looked pretty good before the injury. But yeah, there was plenty of meh to bad in Ox, Giroud, and van Persie.

No need to panic. He'll be fine.
For the record, we coveted Reus quite a bit as well, but Dortmund got him. Apparently, Wenger said on French TV that he's still going after him, but I don't believe that... If his contract does have a release clause though, I think we'd pay it if Theo doesn't extend and we sell him to Chelsea.

I was merely talking about poldi.. he just didn't have a good month.
for what its worth i never saw him play at Cologne so maybe he was just down temporarily.

Podolski is a Jekyll and Hyde kind of player. He's got all that talent Arsenal spoke of when they signed up. But he tends to have decent stretches of pure genius followed by long stretches of nothing. Consistency over the long-term might be OK, but over the course of a single season he can be quite spastic.

One thing he does that only RVP seems to do for Arsenal is shoot the ball. He's not afraid to take shots, he hits them from outside the box, and he doesn't need to pass the ball in the goal or get to the 6 yard box before striking it.
He probably shoots entirely too much, but Im happy to have someone on attack who finally tries shooting.

This. Also, while it was a mistake starting him, it wasn't a Bradley-starting-Rico level mistake.

I've been saying it on here for a while, Poldi is just not as talented as the young stars. Watching Mesut Ozil and him link up is like watching Zidane try to play a give and go with a middle schooler. Completely different levels of play.
He earned the rep of a good defender, but he never really shows that either. If you see Balo's second goal yesterday, Poldi just stood there on the ball over the top. Lahm fricked up but so did Poldi.

I thought Germany's biggest problem was pressing in midfield. Gave Italy entirely too much time on the ball. I don't know if Schweinsteiger should have played since he was sort of injured (maybe I'm making this part up. I heard it somewhere) and has been mostly average this tournament. Also their situation at the back is not good. They have good players, but playing Boateng at RB is not a ideal. Italy basically laid off of him for most of the game because they were confident that he couldn't deliver the final ball. He did have that one nice cross that Balzaretti got to before Podolski, other than that, I thought he was ineffective going forward.
Also I think they need to find the best pairing for Ozil. I don't think he combines all that well with Gomez, as Ozil seems restricted in his horizontal movement to the wings. In the Greece game, you saw what Germany could do, but Low was obviously hesitant to drop some of his star players. Reus should have started from the beginning of this tourney. He was dynamic in his movement, and almost always got into dangerous positions.

That's one of the reasons I think Germany should move on. Jogi has shown too much favoritism with certain players and he has mostly ignored trying to build a useful back line. He flip flops and only played Hummels because of Per's injury.
Reus needed to play more. Anyone who watched the Bundesliga knew that.

Did Götze play any? If he did it was only scrub time.
Dude is overrated. Arsenal should take him off Dortmund's hands. #charity

He barely played against Greece. That was it. I know he and Ozil are a lot alike but you have to figure out how to get him on the field.
Ozil, Reus, and Gotze NEED to be in the game. I don't care if you have to try the false 9 Spanish system, but they need to play.
As far as the earlier statement that Ozil and Gomez don't link up well is true. The reason is because Gomez is kind of a lazy player. He gets himself in very good spots in the box but he doesn't work hard to link up with midfielders and he hasn't worked on his touch enough.
I was trying to tell everyone how good Reus is all year long but I know that y'all just dismiss most of it as German homerism but I hope he showed people how fricking good he is.

Having not watched Gomez much, I was shocked by how worthless he was
He's like a giant, onside Pippo Inzaghi

He can be the deadliest striker on the planet or just play with his hair for an hour. You never know which Mario you'll get.

Inzaghi has scored tons of goals when set up on great through balls and crosses. Gomez is very good at what he does. He's just very limited.
The game was decided by Italy's midfield just being much better than Germany's as a unit.
If I were a club GM, there's a lot of German players I'd love to have individually but if I have to choose between
Pirlo-De Rossi-Montolivo-Marchisio
and
Schweinsteiger-Khedira-Ozil-Kroos
I'll take Italy's as a unit in a heartbeat.

That was the first time the combination of Schweiny Khedira Kroos and Ozil had played together. They're individually better than the Italian unit but Jogi decided to go with something unfamiliar in a semi final.
You keep saying that Italy's midfield was some godsend, but it was Italy's defensive organization that was the impressive thing. Their midfield was fine, but it wasn't anything earth shattering.
