If you pick figs a little early, will it still turn ripe like a tomato will? My figs are starting to turn but the birds are going to get them. I have tin pie plates hanging in the tree, just added 4 rubber snakes and fixing to go and buy two owls and hang them next to my tree. I am bound and determined to make some fig preserves this year.

They will ripen up a little bit but not much.

Get some bird netting might help.

Hate to rub it in, but I done picked 8 gallons, put up 10 pints of preserves, 8 pint of strawberry fig preserves, have two more gallon zip locks in the freezer, the birds done had a feast and my tree is still loaded with figs.
I am about to give up picking
