Let's say Austin Rivers shocked everyone by picking Weber State over Duke last year, then stayed there and torched the Big Sky Conference for the next four seasons. Here were Rivers's numbers in his only Duke season (at age 19).

2011-12: 15.5 PPG, 2.1 APG, 3.4 RPG, 43.3% FG, 37% 3FG.

Here were Lillard's numbers at Weber State …

2008-09: 11.5 PPG, 2.9 APG, 3.9 RPG, 43% FG, 37% 3FG
2009-10: 19.9 PPG, 3.6 APG, 4.0 RPG, 43% FG, 39% 3FG
2010-11: 17.7 PPG, 3.3 APG, 3.8 RPG, 44% FG, 35% 3FG
2011-12: 24.5 PPG, 4.0 APG, 5.0 RPG, 47% FG, 41% 3FG

Adding that Rivers was one of THE top high school recruits last year, you're telling me Rivers couldn't have done better at Weber State than Lillard did? Better pedigree, better freshman year … what am I missing? Why take Lillard over Rivers when Rivers is 25 months younger?

People assume that youth = probability to improve, but I wonder why a coach's son shoots FTs so poorly? I'm not saying he can't improve, but if he's supposed to be a decent shooter (36% 3P) why isn't he better at FTs? We already have Henry who can blow by defenders, get to the line and hit FTs at a less than good rate.

If Rivers didn't possess an elite first step/cross over I'd probably have zero interest in him.

If this is how you're going to determine your picks you're going to get burned a lot.

Austin Rivers, 6-3 guard, Duke: "My biggest concern with him is size. He's never going to be a pure point because it's not in his personality. He's a capable passer, but he hasn't been a willing passer. He's hard to play with, frankly, because he dominates the ball. It depends on who the coach is. I did not like what I saw at Duke. I thought he was spoiled and selfish. He's a streaky outside shooter, not a great one."

I also think the fact that he's a coach's son drops him on my board. Many players have flaws that can be addressed with good coaching. Rivers should not need the same level of coaching, so how will his flaws be corrected?

One word, quail. I'm looking out for you. Although, someone obviously thinks it's more heresy than hearsay.

A few reasons.

-Lillard is a vastly better athlete
-Lillard has shown the ability to run the point (though most effective as a scorer to his point)
-Multiple testimonies of Rivers not playing well with others/selfish play whereas one guy on termed Lillard "the most unselfish scoring point I've ever seen."

Lillard is the best player in the draft that no one on this board has seen play.

Bring him in though, he's so awesome

he shot open jumpers really well in workouts

and was a pretty awesome passer in those 3 on 1 fast break drills

oh he also tore up the Big Sky, dropping 4 assists a game one season.
